Morgaine has had blackheads on and off since she was a kitten. she is now 13 and has FDwhich is well regulated. She has some actual acne on her chin and i am wondering what others have used to clean the chin and get this to resolve. It isn't really bad, just a couple of actual acne bumps. She doesn't eat from anything but ceramic dishes except once in a while from a feeder but the acne was there before I ever used the feeder. I carefully clipped the hair off the chin and would like to know what the best remedy is to clean this?

we went from bowls to plates (so chin doesn't squish around in food in a bowl and then sit there and rot & fester on their chins basically) and was told by Jojo, a tech who used to frequent the boards alot, to clean with Stridex pads after they eat. Mousie got it pretty good a while back and several weeks of stridex-ing cleaned it up. then over the next few months a couple other kitties got it too so we did the same thing and cleaned theirs up. so far so good now in my house

I clean the area well with peroxide, then use cornstarch rubbed in charlie's beard. It works great. For dark kitties, I heard that fuller's earth is a great choice instead of cornstarch.

Thanks for all your replies. I am going to leave this up a while and see if there are more suggestions.

Scope. And it works; Shadoe had a bout of it and her chin is spotless and bump free now

My cat Hera (not Rocco my 12 y/o diabetic cat) had acne on her chin and my vet told me to switch to stainless steel dishes because bacteria can't grow on them. Sure enough, her acne cleared up. I had just brought this cute ceramic pet food dish in the shape of a fish from The Bombay Store too. I only use stainless steel dishes now except for a water dish that has a flowing water dish for cats, which I wash every week and always change the filter. Still no acne.

I should add that all cat dishes are glass, corelle, or stainless steel - even when the auto feeder was used, I put small glass bowls into each section so Shadoe has never had food containers as part of the problem.
