Hello. I have a 15 year old female cat who is my best friend. She was diagnosed with diabetes 3 years ago and us doing great.
In January I took her in to see my vet because she had a small rash on her chin. My vet said she has feline acne and prescribed Atopica since diabetic cats can't use steroids, and to clean the area daily.
I am on social security disability and I can't afford 100.00 a month for Atopica.
My question have any suggestions or know where I might get help purchasing Atopica at a lower price.
 
I have purchased some things from www.allivet.com, a pharmacy in Florida. Usually cheaper on animal scripts. I typed this in & they do have it for $26.99 plus shipping. It does require an rx so I would ask your vet for a script or your vet could fax them the script. Hope this helps... you can try other vet pharmacies like pet meds, etc to get it.

I just bought Atopica from Allivet.com. http://www.allivet.com/p-3392-atopica-for-cats-100mg-ml.aspx was $80 for a big bottle, and you can get a $25 rebate from Elanco the manufacturer.

I'm surprised they prescribed something! I've never heard of that before and I'm rather intrigued. My civvie Bella has had that chin rash before and the vet said it was acne. She said it was from not washing the food/water dishes enough, which surprised us because we thought we were doing it frequently enough. So we bought a copper-coated water dish and clean the food dishes more often. I believe my hubby did put some hydrogen peroxide on her chin (ha, he's a germaphobe and cannot say enough for the wonderful power of hydrogen peroxide), although I haven't the foggiest idea if it worked. :p It went away on its own not too long after. Did they say what could have caused it?
 
Lucy has this condition. Not sure what it is but with her seems to be some sort of infection. She did a round of Clavamox but that didn't help. Vet prescribed enrofloxacin but haven't started it yet.

Anyone else have any experience with this? Know what it is? Or have an effective treatment for it?
 
Sometimes chin acne gets infected and antibiotics are required. Sometimes the individual pustules have to be burst to let the piussout. I have used a syringe need for that
 
When Sheba had this condition I changed from plastic to ceramic bowls and washed her chin with water after each meal and dried it thoroughly. It worked!

Years ago, I had a civvie that was prone to feline acne. I used to put Neosporin on it and he seemed to like that. He would show me his chin when he thought he needed Neosporin.

I started feeding him from glass plates instead of a plastic bowl and running his dishes through the dishwasher. I think that helped him a lot
 
Thank you all for the great suggestions. I've switched her bowls to glass and I wash them regularly. She's been on the meds for 5 days now. I'm not seeing much improvement and giving the meds is a real trying ordeal for both of us. Has anyone had any experience with chlorhexadine wipes? I've seen them recommended and good reviews on Amazon.

I had a cat with chin acne many years ago and the human acne med, benzoyl peroxide, helped a lot. That's in Stridex pads.
 
Years ago I read anything plastic should be avoided. I did like you & switched to all glass . I also stared giving him distilled water to drink (no flouride) & I just washed the area with mild soap & rinsed thoroughly.
After a few weeks it went away & never came back. I'd try stopping with the meds. (sometimes simple things work it just takes a little time)
