So this is only Darwin's second day (and first FULL day of me monitoring his BG), but I am amazed at how well he is accepting this! He is very difficult to orally medicate, but apparently, is receptive to ear pokes and insulin injections!
This morning, I placed him on my little set up table, and he just sat there and allowed me to do everything on my own - and did NOT run away afterwards. I hope this is sign of things to come...I expected the initial few days to a week to be the most difficult!
That being said, I am wondering about monitoring today. I got his AMPS, fed him, and gave his shot. Since he is JUST starting on Lantus, is it worth checking him throughout the day to try and get a curve? Or would it be prudent to do so BECAUSE he has just started on insulin? I go back to work tomorrow, so it will be more difficult for me to do many readings during my long work days. My vet (my boss) said for me to check his levels again in 7-10 days if I didn't get started on home-monitoring right away.

I wouldn't recommend needing anything more than a random spot check today since it's day 2 of Lantus and it can take a few days for the depot to build up. While you have to work, focus on AMPS, PMPS, and a before bed test (usually between +2 and +4 after PM shot)
