hello, can some of you provide info on how often for feedings. I volunteer for a rescue, you guys all helped with Ezzie, and she continues to do well ( off insulin for 6 months now). Blood sugars stable. I feed her 1/4 can of Friskies: liver and chicken pate,4 times per day. We have a new cat and foster does not check blood sugars, is giving 2 units of insulin (unsure of type) twice daily and feeds wet grain free, low carb various canned( sometimes with gravy in it). I am wondering about several things:
Not checking blood sugar
Started on 2 units twice daily
Is fed only twice a day
Also was throwing up last week: pancreatitis?

I've suggested they come to this web site for help, but I don't believe they have.
Would anyone please help with thoughts, much if this seems concerning from what I learned with Ez

Thank you

I have done it at first, but shooting blind scares me.

If not testing (not sure if that is going to change) I would leave food out all the time to be safe as can be in these circumstances. Vomit can be for a variety of reasons. White & foamy for acidic stomach, the scarf and barf (which may be an issue because if kitty isn't regulated he may be starving), pancreatitis - Jones was usually a puddle of food coloured water.

Has foster kitty had a check up yet?

Yes, vet told them only feed every 12 hours. He ate through a bag of dry food to get to it. I really am concerned that these fosters are flying blind and cat is suffering as a result.

Classic sign of starving. May be see if they are open to more meals per day.

I don't get vets, as people we eat 3-6 times a day. Why on earth would you expect a animal do eat just twice a day?

Jones has always been a free feeder and that is the way he eats now. I just make sure I get a tsp or two in before injection.

Since they are not home testing, I'd at least try to get them to get ketone test strips to make sure he's not throwing ketones with higher / uncontrolled numbers. Not to be mean but would they blindly dose a human child without testing? We feel no different with our fur babies
