Expected Fearless to bounce (off last night's 61) all day since he was still in 300s when I left the house this morning. Wasn't expecting to find him in the 100s when I returned. Been up and down last few days. Bounced last evening off the greens during the day but then ended up going much lower during the night. His bounces are typically 4-5 cycles lately but now they appear to be much shorter. I'd appreciate someone scanning his SS and sharing wisdom on what's happening and where I can expect him to go next. I have plenty of data but he doesn't seem to be following his old patterns (weird as they often were!) Do the last couple of days (with shorter bounces) mean he is headed in the right direction and I can expect him to spend more time in the green? Has anyone seen this kind of pattern before?
 
As kitties get more used to green, they will tend to bounce both for shorter periods of time, and not as high. That is a good thing. :)
 
My first question is has he ever had a dental?

His bounces are getting smaller, only going pink after green.... mostly....
Be suspicious anytime you see a pink now, there probably was a green you missed.
He does seem to drop quickly to green from the yellow floor.

You mean dental surgery? Yes, he had a tooth pulled a couple years ago. Why do you ask? Do you suspect there's something wrong with his teeth now that is causing this change in pattern?

The last time his PMPS was this low was on 9/8, but he never dropped to green that time. Should I expect that he'll drop like a rock tonight (as he did last night)?

If you meant a dental exam, he had one when he was diagnosed w/diabetes at his annual checkup in March. No major issues at that time. He does tend towards tartar build-up. The vet usually scrapes a bit, gives him an antibiotic, and sends him on his way. But not this year.
 
I am wondering on the dental because that is a major thorn in the side of diabetic kitties. It can keep them from remission.
If he will let you look, see if there is any pink/redness irritated gums anywhere.
Just having a vet look without xrays isn't helpful.
There is a very common condition for cats where the teeth /roots mostly can crack but there usually will be some redness on the surface of the gum around the tooth.

If it's been two years or more since a real dental ( with anesthesia and xrays) I'd consider having it done just to rule it out.
He keeps taking a step forward but isn't holding the decreases.

I suspect he could very well earn one tonite, I would get a +4 ....
maybe even a +3.

unless he goes under 50, just encourage a surf with a teaspoon of his normal low carb food.
No need to give anything higher until he gets to the under 50 range....

Typically I would wait to give HC but since it's so early in the cycle and he typically gets a 1/4 can of LC the first 4 hrs of each cycle anyway, I added just a 1/2 tsp of gravy to (possibly) slow the drop a bit. LC food typically has no effect on his counts. Once he drops below 70 it takes 1-2 tsp of gravy to keep him above 50.

The fact that he's not holding decreases has not been lost on me. It's very discouraging and I find myself torn between keeping him in the healing greens as long as possible (by feeding HC and testing every hr) or letting him drop below 50 and taking the decrease, which has always failed. But I guess I'm not doing him any favors by choosing option 1, am I? So should I let him go below 50 (not give HC the next time he's close) and hope that one of these times he'll hold the decrease?

Just looked and there is a bit of redness right above the gum line (top front teeth). This is nothing new for Fearless though. Still, I planned to return to the vet in a couple of weeks anyway. I will insist that he do a thorough cleaning plus x-rays to rule out anything more serious than tartar.

I'm glad you will pursue the teeth.....
I won't be surprised at all if they are holding him back.
I hope it turns out that they are the problem because it's a solvable one.
 
Thanks for the advice. BTW, so far he's holding his own above 50 with only a tiny bit of help from me. Would be nice if he stayed in the green all night without dipping below 50. He'll still bounce, I'm sure, but maybe it will be another short one. Fingers crossed!
 
Dropping fast off the yellow AMPS today. Feed the +5 (56) a little HC or let him go and see if he drops below 50 on his own?
