hi
sooooo im hoping this is just a food thing with patches because i noticed while he was on petsmarts brand food (thinking it was one particular flavor) it slowly brought him out of remission, he was on that brand since july 2010 till about 2 weeks ago when we switched back to fancy feast
i had noticed that he started drinking, peeing alot, lost some weight, immediately took him off the petsmart brand (was really trying to save money but ive learned my lesson)
i was in a every 3 month testing for him, he normally fluctuates in the 80's to 90's sometimes a 70....i tested him about 2 weeks ago and he was 197 nailbite_smile at that time i changed food that day, immediately peeing went to normal, drinking completely stopped and he is now gaining weight back, i didnt take him to a vet because i like alot of people have the vet that doesnt agree with hometesting they only want their money for me to come in ($36 a visit) i have yet to speak to them since he went OTJ almost 2 yrs ago when they wouldnt speak to me over the phone unless i brought him in on a emerg visit. i spoke to a well known vet and very good one over the phone (me not even being a client) and she said to take him off the insulin let him be a cat and if he gets bad again call and we will get him in.
so i tested this saturday he was still 187 (now this is not knowing the last time he ate may have been an hr)
so im calling this vet again to see what i need to do....not sure if i just need to keep with his current diet to get his pancreas back to normal. when he went OTJ he was on such a tiny tiny dose (due to speaking to people on here, my vet had him on 4 units ) and he went from 300 to 80 in less than 2 hrs and this was even before the food change over..... he still plays just the running around that i know of i dont see anymore.
so my question, he is on the classics, chicken, chicken/liver, turk/giblets, and mixed grill.....has anyone noticed more of a influx in levels on any of these?
im trying my best to not get him back on insulin as i think this is a mistake in choosing the BAD food based on finances rather than what is best....
thanks!
