I was reading the group page on facebook and someone talked about Fancy Feast causing Bladder Infections. They said the vet told them FF was know to cause this. Had anyone else ever heard of this or had this problem?

I've read that before but I think that vet is trying to apply something that happened with one cat to everyone...just my opinion. I'm not sure I believe it....also been feeding FF for years and never had an issue.

UNfortunately I DO know about the meats used in animal foods - DH used to work at a turkey plant. Any meat that fell on the floor was picked up and thrown in a big vat. After the floors were sprayed down with cleaning solutions and swept, any meat there was also put into that vat - cleaning solution and all. Those vats were sold for pet food....

They might've meant dry Fancy Feast. Maybe it wouldn't cause a "bladder infection" but definitely other urinary issues that might look similar.

Nope, they were talking about Fancy Feast. It has people commenting on it saying they are now scared to feed their sugar cats or civies FF. Its just weird that people would do that. I told them UTIs are caused by lots of things and there is no one specific thing that does it. That the dry food would be worse even for civies since it has no moisture. I just hate when there is misinformation and people only go on what they are told.

Oh it's just human nature, we are spoonfed lies and garbage (sometimes by professionals!) and love it because no one wants to think for themselves any more. There are still people that think canned food is bad and Fancy Feast is the "McDonalds of cat food" and their cats are "just fine" on high carb corn/soy loaded dry. All you can do is point out that is incorrect and hope they listen.

Actually, a urinary tract infection is caused by bacteria, nothing else. There's no way that food going into a cat's stomach is going to create bacteria in their urinary tract. Anyone who tries to say that food can cause a UTI has no basic understanding of anatomy.

Food can contribute to urinary issues in cats, dogs and people. What we all eat effects the ph of the urine in the bladder, and the ph effects the growth of crystals and bacteria in the bladder. So for some animals with urinary tract problems, such as recurrent uti's, changing the food can help alleviate the problem.

I've fed my cats FF canned and dry for years... granted I only feed them the one's on "THE LIST" now, but I've never had a problem with a UTI. Kate urinates more, but she's getting a ton more moisture too. I would research the UTI stuff. From my understanding... and mine alone, it's usually E. coli. The only way I could imagine this, and I really did just picture it, is that the cat would be licking to clean themself, in essence, wiping back to front instead of fron to back like us little girls were taught. OR... if they squatted down to far and their fanny touch a piece of poop that had the bacteria on/in it. However, there could be a myriad of other ways to get it. Those were just my immediate thoughts.
