extremely frustrated with all of it!

i really want to scream! throw my laptop against the wall maybe even kill the cat! kidding! love him! just spent two hrs creating spread sheet because i really need help with numbers for simba they make no sense but i have never used a spreadsheet and now i cant type anything in why? i have been using a tablet for everything and cant even figure out my laptop because im used to the old windows.
ok if you can see the numbes i did my first glucose curve 2 days ago and the numbers are crazy! when i got a 39 at 4hrs i couldnt believe it! now i am scared havent given him 2 units since! but when numbers are >500 what to do? just tested a little while ago at +8 and it was 76! gave him 1.5units this am. HE IS ONLY EATING FF CLASSIC, i swear! another thing you guys and all your acronyms! i thought pzi was short for prozinc insulin, apparantly not really i am so frustrated. btw simba has been asymptomatic as far as i can tell for low numbers. somebody take pity on me PLEASE

You are doing great dont worry! OK now looking at your numbers he dropped LOW on the 17th, and I see in your notes he ate ff w/ gravy.....stupid question was that to get out of hypo numbers? If that is the case that is good but he was most likely high at his PM preshot due to that, then I see you gave him the 1.5 units (assuming because you seen the 500) I'm wondering and thinking if your AM preshot on the 18th was a bounce, he might of dropped really low because of the low number the previous day and then jumping high that night. He might just be bouncing around right now. I see at +8 he was at 76 which is good, but not looking like he'll be in a range for a shot tonight.

PZI and prozinc are VERY similar, so don't get turned off by the name difference. You have a good insulin, and you can adjust the dosage with PZI. What might end up happening is no shot tonight, if he's still low and basically start fresh tomorrow.

If this happens I'd suggest starting lower than 1.5. I'd say maybe 1 unit but that depends on how low he is in the A.M. Even if he's high I would suggest starting at 1, its better to start low and go slow.

Cat is bouncing, because the liver has got used to higher numbers it gets a big fright going into lower numbers and releases lots of stuff to make the BG rise again. The more time spent in normal numbers the less frightened the liver is and the less bouncing you see. The amount of high carb fed for the 39 was overkill, usually a couple of tsp is enough and then test again in half an hour. You want to keep them surfing along in the upper greens for as long as you can so the liver starts to remember what normal numbers feel like.

Be great if you can start getting a before bed test so we can see what's going on at night too (many cats go lower at night). I suspect that there have been more of those low greens. I've not dealt with your type of insulin so won't attempt to advise on dose other than to say 1.5 units does seem to be too high for Simba right now.

P.s. Primal screaming is a great way to relieve some frustration, as long as your neighbours don't call the cops

Yes the FF with gravy was because of the 39. I just started the spread sheet but previously his numbers were all over as well, although I don't know if they were dropping that low, and still don't have a good idea of when he hits nadir but it seems like it might be earlier than normal. Also seems like the insulin isn't holding for 12 hrs as it should. I understand the start low and go slow, vet started him on 2units prozinc and once I started home testing I have been using more of a sliding scale approach but those >500 freak me out.
Now that I have the hurdle of the spreadsheet out of the way my next goal is testing for ketones. Have tried to sneak up on him with test strip a few times but no luck. I am going to try locking him in the bathroom with some safflower seed in a clean litter box.
I have recouped from my frustration earlier today and think I have the spreadsheet under control and am also getting more comfortable with this new laptop. touchscreen tablets and I phone have spoiled me but couldn't do spreadsheet on tablet.

LOL a primal scream would feel really good. I agree the whole can was overkill but I was nervous! I leave food out for him at night because I suspect your right about the low numbers at night, food is always all gone in the morning. Thought about a bedtime test last nite but thinking was as far as it got. I would just really like to feel that after 6 weeks he was showing some signs of stabilizing.
