Found a great deal on test strips on Ebay so I made a bid.

After bidding and going back to the item description I saw that they expired 08/2012, I now see why they were such a great deal. No one else bid so I won them.

Has anyone used expired strips? Wouldn't they still be good if they were not opened? The strips are for the Arkray Glucocard 01.

I now know to be more careful before bidding.

Well, we are still in August so they shouldn't be bad and expiration dates are listed as 'soonest date' by the manufacturers to keep their tails out of the fire.

As long as you didn't buy 500 of them I would say they are good- ask around and see who else uses your meter on the board and see if any have used expired strips. If you only bought 100 or so you might just used them up quickly- I go through 250 around 45 days.

At the beginning I had a friend who was on disability and they switched his meter to a new one. He gave me almost 700 strips- all expired. I was able to use 200 of them that were the latest expired. I did tests them against my Relion meter at the time and they were within the range allowed.

I've used expired strips in several meters and do currently when KT is in higher numbers. There's one that won't let me, I can't remember the name but it takes a little chip. When I open a new pack of strips, I compare it against my Relion a couple of tests to check - I rarely have any issue and I test a lot. When I get a wonky number, I test with my relion. Using one strip once in a while makes a pkg last a lot longer when times get 'crunchy'.

I'm not telling you to use them, I'm just sharing my experience.... ;-)

HUGS!
