It took long enough to have enough accurate (no fur shots, etc.) data in Pumbaa's SS to see a pattern, but I just saw it tonight, thanks to Gayle mentioning something in my Condo.
Pumbaa always has his lowest numbers the 4th cycle after a dose increase, bounces, and never goes back down to those low numbers again. (He did this the third cycle when I first started him on Lantus, but I think that's because he has his lowest numbers at night I started the dose the previous evening.)
Check out these dates on his SS:
4/12
4/18
5/7
5/12
Eureka! A pattern emerges! Finally!
I'm not counting from 4/24 to 5/5 because I had dramatically decreased his dose from 1.50U to .50U to start over, and his shed was unfilling.
So, and do correct me if I am wrong, it appears to me that in the 4th cycle, we see what this dose is capable of producing, but once he reaches those low numbers and bounces, he never comes back down and settles into lower numbers.
I kept him at 1.00U for 8 days, from 4/28 to 5/5, thinking that it just took him much longer to settle into a dose. I was proven wrong.
Someone, I can't remember who, and wish I would have bookmarked the thread, explained that some cats just continue to go higher and higher in their numbers until the ideal dose is found. That appears to be Pumbaa's M.O., other than doing a dive during the 4th cycle.
Tomorrow morning, if I increase him to 1.75U (BID), I'll bet you anything that Thursday night he drops down into the greens. (Good thing I changed my work hours to nights instead of days!)
Input on this is very welcome. I am just very happy to see a pattern emerge!
