Edit: further updates in replies now that i know I'm supposed to do that

Update 10 mines after post: bg is 68, but i know sugar gets in quick and leaves quick. When we try to feed should we give high carb or regular low carb food?

Very floppy when picked up, bg is 26, we just rubbed some syrup on his gums. Before hand was sitting by water sniffing occasional but not drinking. We gave him high carb food but he wasnt interested. Shortly he hopped off hos feeding spot and walked back (a little shakily but mostly steady) to water spot and sat back down in loaf position.

Hes probaly low because he didnt eat last night at all, even though the vet gave him anti nausea meds. Hes due for his next dose tonight.

It was so expensive yesterday, we really cant afford more unless its to save his life so i was thinking frequent testing and gum rubbing, but whay do you think? Is there any more home remedies we can do, someone yesterday said ondansetron and i have some human pills of those, but would it interact with cerenia 16 mg he wa prescribed?

Yesterday: ER due to frequent vomiting and low/no appetite, see previous post. They found that he had a heart murmur but no enlarged heart, and some elevated kidney values but it might just be dehydration. They gave him fluids and antinausea meds thru injection, and gave us antinausea pills to take home, and follow up in a few weeks.

Checking SS I need to see where these BG values fall in the cycle and what dose you gave, I'll be right back. Keep rubbing syrup on his gums, and test again from that 26, we need him up ASAP.

Billy, it's important that I understand what dose did you give today and last night? The spreadsheet only goes up to am cycle Dec. 8th and I see you haven't been giving insulin? Also, it's best to continue to post replies vs. going back to your original post at the top and editing, ok? Have you been able to get another blood test please?

Sorry, i spdated the ss, no insulin since november 8

@Billy the Kat Parent, hopefully you'll post soon to clarify some of my earlier questions, but in the meantime, I went back to your other post.

? - Need advice, lethargy vomiting pain but appetite coming back | Feline Diabetes Message Board - FDMB

It's possible that the 26 was a wonky test, since if I understand your edited original post correctly, he was 68 approx 10 minutes after you posted, and from your previous post, you haven't been giving insulin since early November, but if you do come back to the post here, please let us know if you did give insulin last night or this morning. Many kitties who are not being given insulin can have lower BG readings on a human meter, and but for rare cases of a specific condition, it's likely not hypoglycemia if your cat hasn't been given insulin.

It sounds like he still has some signs of nausea, if he is hanging out at the water bowl and not drinking and if he's not interested in food you may try some of these tips to Stimulate Kitty's Appetite

It is important that you get him to eat even a little bit at a time, since kitties who go too long without eating can have serious complications. You may want to consider syringe feeding. I'll find a link for you on that here shortly.

The vet we went to said he needs iv fluids and hospitalization, so we took him to the nearest 24 hour vet

Blood work was normal, no sepsis, very has a theory that is Addison's disease or hypoadrenocorticism, rare in cats but happens when they are on prednisolone and then go off it, which is the case here, he does have a few other symptoms of it too, lethargy, poor appetite vomiting, etc. Waiting on the test for that

Thank you for the update, I didn’t want to speculate, but those were the “rare” conditions I was worried about based on my limited general knowledge. The other is Insulinoma, again rare in cats. Sounds like you are in good hands at the current vet, I hope they get Chant feeling better soon.

Thank you, turns out it wasn't Addison's, but the vet is keeping him over night because they need a low bg blood sample to test for pancreas issues, might be cancer might be something going back on prednisolone will help, and after they get that they'll give some meds to stimulate appetite, and we'll be back in the morning. Sounds like he's to lethargic to be very stressed, hopefully he does ok and they get that test and get his appetite back

So his BG was normal in ER (I assume since you gave sugar). I’m wondering if there’s any chance your meter or strips were bad? Or if there’s any chance Chant could have eaten xylitol (any sugar free treats around the house)? Although the vet probably asked you that. I hope they find a cause and that it’s not anything bad

I don't remember if there were any low readings at the er or not, I'll have to ask. I guess there's always a chance they're was an error with the meter or the strips, but the strips i used i bought today, and he did have symptoms of hypoglycemia, so i don't know. They didn't ask if he got into anything he shouldn't, but i don't think we have any xylitol products he can get to, maybe some sugar substitute might have fell on the floor but i checked and its like etherytol. Thank you for these good points though.

His quality of life would and ability to eat would not not have improved even with aggressive treatmen t that would have taken a lot of time anyway.

So that morning while he was surrounded by loved ones the whole time we put him to sleep.

I’m so very sorry for your loss—he was clearly loved and you gave him a gentle peace

Billy I am so sorry to hear Chant has gone to the rainbow bridge. It’s a very hard decision to have to make but you gave him the gift of peace. :bighug:
