After doing some research and getting lots of helpful answers here at FDMB, I went out and bought some 26 gauge lancets, ready to begin paw pad testing so Squallie's poor little ears could have a break. Armed with my new lancets, I settled Squallie comfortably in my lap and proceeded to play gently with his feet - didn't want to just leap at them with a sharp lancet, right? So he's all comfy and purring, I'm ready to test his pad, for what MUST, of course, be a pleasant relief for him. I lower the lancet to his pad, and....

WRONG!:eek::eek::eek::eek:

Squallie EXPLODES in my lap, leaving several bloody trail of MY blood, not his, on me as proof of the fact that he will never, EVER agree to have his paw pads pricked with a lancet. I had to laugh, in spite of the scratches; me so confident and him so relaxed, we must have made quite the picture the moment that lancet touched his foot, lol!

Looks like we'll be sticking with the ears for the time being! ;):)

Oh wow!! Funny how cats can be so different. Carter passes out asleep and/or purrs his little head off whenever I'm testing his pads. For his ears (for the week I did his ears in the beginning of his diagnosis) he tolerated it but it was more fidgetting on his end as I tried to get a good grip, took me much longer, and with how much I was testing I'm sure his ears would have looked like swiss cheese. :eek:

I hope you're not bruised up too bad!!

Oh Lucy, every now and then I think about trying the paw pad on Colin, but I have in my mind the exact picture you just painted!:eek: Glad all's ok and you can laugh at it!

I don't mean to laugh but I can picture Dre doing the same--he is really good for his ear and not so fond of his paw touched although he would let me --
more data!
:bighug:

I'm impressed you guys can even test without a partner. Shawn and I have to team up to test Max - Shawn holds him wrapped in a towel and I am the one that pokes his ear. We're now trying to figure out how to do it without needing a partner just in case it's an emergency that we check Max and the other is not around. So far not working! hahaha

I always give Callie a treat when I put her on the table I use for her test. It can be a brushing, a chin scratch or a low carb treat like a bit of chicken. After a while, she looked forward to the treats and would jump up on tbe table when she saw me getting ready to test her. Now she sleeps there. The only times she protests is if I have to stick her several times. There is a video on U Tube showing how to wrap her up into a cat burrito and then test.
