I just wanted to actually introduce myself , my name is Charmaine. My Mom's kitty Purple was recently diagnosed with diabetes. She was diagnosed one month after my youngest Patches had been diagnosed with Breast Cancer. This was two weeks after I had been lay-ed off so it has been a rough time. I originally just posted a question about the Glucometer because I was just so overwhelmed. Finding this site was heaven's sent , I have read through allot of post . Everyone here is very supportive, kind, and informative. I have to make some tough choices coming up and I think this place will be helpful . Thank you all.

Welcome Charmaine,

Sorry to hear about the rough time you and your baies are going through. If there are any questions we can answer for you that would make your choices easier please! Let us know how we can help you and your kitty. If some of it is the expense we can offer you several tips on how to manage Purple's diabetes on a shoestring. And I believe we have several members here that also have cancer kitties that can offer you advice there as well.

Looking forward to hearing more about you, Patches and Purple.

Welcome! Have we mentioned that your mom can get a free newbie kit? It will have a meter, some strips and other stuff you can use to help with Purple's diabetes. Just contact Lori and Tom: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=19541 Testing at home will help with expensive vet visits.

What a rough patch you're going through! I know when I found out Sam had diabetes, I had several meltdowns, sometimes more than once a day. This site is great. I can't say enough about how much it's helped me and Sam!

Thank you all, we actually went with a One Touch meter for Purple. We still have not been trained on it yet but we do have the whole kit. Thank you for the offer of a newbie kit though that is very kind. Patches is still hanging in she is as comfortable as we can make her. She eats her hard food and drinks water but no extras. She cuddles and purrs ; she is happy as long as one of us is around her. Thank you all once again.
