Emme & Senvelgo

Emme is a 12 1/2 year old Ginger male. A while back I took him in for a standard senior wellness checkup. He was diagnosed with diabetes so the vet put him on Senvelgo which was put in his wet food. Didn't stop him from eating which was a good thing. I was instructed to remove hard food as the carbs are too high and feed him wet food as the protein is high and carbs are almost non existent. First dose was fine, no issues, no side effects. The following day, since he only receives one dose per day, he received his second dose. Within minutes after that, the poor little guy had the most serious case of diarrhea I've ever seen. Non stop for about three hours (thank goodness it's parquet flooring and easy to clean up). He became lethargic, dehydrated and literally looked horrible. The little looked at me as if to say what on earth is going on. I contacted the vet and they told me, oh.. that can happen, but it usually goes away after a few months. Yea, no. Not on your life are we continuing this. So essentially, we just keep feeding him the wet food, high in protein (from the food database), keep him happy and monitor.
