effects of shot 2 hours early?

Decreased Buddys shot from thin 1.5 to fat 1.25 , cycle 4 he is high 300's all day, laying around thirsty and peeing almost non stop, so at +10 he is 400, and I give him a shot (back to thin 1.5) .Coudn't bear to watch him in that state for another 2 hours.
Even thoguh the slightly higher amt amkes him bounce , he is, for the most part green /blue..i hope i can get him back there,
but now I am wondering what are the reprecusions of the 2 hour early shot?

Hi Marci, an early shot equals a dose increase. But just keep an eye on him with tonight's cycle (before bed checks and all), and if you can throughout tomorrow with spot checks.

Remember that if you do shoot early you probably don't want to go up with the dose like you did tonight. Stay with the same dose or decrease it slightly. I don't know why he goes up into these 400's occasionally but think maybe it has something to do with him needing that dental.

You quoted that it would cost around $1000? That seems kind of steep. You might find it cheaper if you call around. Here are two threads that might help in that regard. They are long but give good info:

Everyone has had situations arise when they could not be home at shot time and have had to shoot a little early or a little late. Remember that your nadir will be two hours early and then BG will continue to rise. Shoot your AM shot tomorrow morning one hour early, then you can be back on schedule tomorrow evening.

Yoyo's BG continued to rise for the 1st 3 hours after a shot of Levemir. You don't have a lot of data, but it looks like this is the case with Buddy as well. So you aren't going to get much benefit in the near term. I know how hard it is. My cat walks around yowling loudly when he is really high. It is really hard to listen to it and feel powerless.

ok sounds like it wont have catastrophic results-i can be be on track by tomorow night if i shoot 1 hour early in the a.m....thanks!
 
No, not catastrophic... just remember that shooting 1 hour early at the same dose would equal a dose increase. If you do that twice tomorrow to get back on track make sure his numbers haven't run low all day. If so, you might want to decrease the dose a bit for those two early shots - maybe to 1.25u or so.

I always decrease slightly when shooting early unless I have been getting 300s from Jeddie.

Can we speak in terms of actual clock time? 'Cause the way I read this, you would be giving a shot at +11, but you gave yesterday's PM shot at +10, so you would now be 3 hours earlier??

Example, regular shot time is 7AM/7pm. He tested 400 at 5PM, so you gave shot 2 hours early, or +10. So this AM's shot should have been at 6AM if you are trying to get him back to 7AM/7PM cycles. That would be +13.

I know it's confusing, I just don't want you to continue shooting earlier, because as Lana & Pamela have said, those equal dose increases!
 
Vicky is quite right. I meant a 13 hour cycle the next day, then back on the usual 12 hour cycle the following night. --- Lana
