Just saw my sugarcat make goopy poop in litter box and then start to lick it up!

ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile Why would she do this?????? ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile

Mikey had this problem when he was first diagnosed. The vet said it was most likely because unregulated diabetics aren't getting enough nutrients from their food and so he's trying to "make up for it," almost like a rabbit eats their cecal pellets...at least that was all he could figure. Once I started feeding Mikey more food and he was on insulin and better regulated, this issue disappeared and I had completely forgotten about it till I saw your post.

I would check the food you're feeding her. Maybe they recently changed the formula. How have her numbers been lately? Maybe try feeding her a bit more food than normal and see if that helps.

Sorry to bring up such a sh***y (pardon the pun) memory.

She has been on Friskies for months and months now. Same variety of flavors...all pate types. Eats a total of about 4 cans a day and weighs 11 pounds which is quite normal for her.

If you look at her ss, her numbers have been goofy lately. Has been on Clavamox (for UTI) and Proviable (for ohmygod_smile STINKY ohmygod_smile goopy poopies) for the past few weeks. Still have a few more days for the Clavamox.

All done with Proviable...."stinkies" are gone....but poop still comes out like diarhhea (sp) and looks like a goopy blob as it starts to dry. ohmygod_smile What a gross post this is getting to be !!! ohmygod_smile

Had fecal test done (while it was still stinky) and vet did not find anything wrong. I guess the problem is when it is on it's way out....food must go in one end and right out the other. The Proviable (probiotic) was supposed to help solve the poop issue. Jeepers Cats....looks like another trip to the vet and/or more meds. I will have to call vet tomorrow I suppose....OR....since I have to get cat food tomorrow (again), I will try switching her to Fancy Feast for a while and see if that works. Ohhhhh...are my civvies gonna be mad if they are stuck with Friskies while she gets FF.

Might need to try something like metronidazol (Flagyl) which handles some different bacteria.

Fair warning though, it tastes awful. If she'll easy to pill, do it that way. Otherwise, be prepared for burrito wrapping, heavy long sleeved shirt and long pantsn and working in the bathroom so she can't escape!

Hmmmm...think I will give Fancy Feast a try first to see if the Friskies is causing the problem. Plus..It tastes better. :-D

There's also canned pumpkin (make sure it doesn't have any spices). That's known to help some cats with both firming and softening issues. It's high glycemic but it's got a low "load" so it shouldn't affect numbers too much (if at all).

Plain psyllium powder can do the same thing as the pumpkin. Add a pinch to 1/4th teaspoon to a meal, plus a tablespoon of water (or it makes the canned food too gummy)

Thanks BJ and KPassa...

Will make notes on your suggestions and figure out what to use. I am trying FF for a while now to see if Friskies was the culprit.

How have things been going?

Been on FF since 10-30-13 and pumpkin since 11-3-13.

Poopies vary...still a little stinky and not quite as goopy. Haven't seen her eat any or noticed that she might have done so. Giving this combo a few more weeks to see how things go.

Glad she eats the pumpkin (it tastes awful...bean is used to spices in it...mmmmm pumpkin pie). Tried giving some to my civvies...they would not touch it.

Rumpelteazer will eat anything.... ohmygod_smile I guess the poop-eating proves that somewhat.

Civvies are a little mad at bean...they are stuck with Friskies....RumpelT gets the FF. Would go broke feeding 7 cats FF 3X a day...and I know if I even give civvies FF for one meal....they would not want Friskies ever again....they are even spoiled as to each one liking certain flavors...it's a smorgasboard at meal time.
