Eddie's Neuropathy

I have not posted in awhile, I am Eddie's mom (Terry). I had posted about Eddie and neuropathy in the hind legs. At the suggestion of the group I started Eddie on Zobaline a few months ago and he is back to walking on his tip toes but he still has an altered gait and weakness. He can run and jump but too much activity and his right leg goes out but he recovers quickly. I am just wondering if others have had similar experiences with Zobaline correcting the fallen hocks but gait abnormality and weakness persisting? He had blood work in August and no abnormalities there and I check him once a week for ketones. I am giving him Zobaline once a day. Thanks!

Hi Terry. How old is Eddie? Is it possible he may have a touch of arthritis in his spine or hips? Or perhaps an old injury that causes him to favor his right leg at times? My cat's hind legs were becoming wobbly and weak and I thought he had neuropathy (turned out to be a potassium deficiency) but we also discovered that he had arthritis in his lower spine, not uncommon in older cats. He is on a potassium supplement and his back legs are no longer wobbly, but he does still have periods of weakness due to the arthritis.

Something you may want to add is essential fatty acids (a deep sea cold water fish oil)

I also swear by adequan injections .... you can do this at home just need a script from you vet, my boys have been getting it for years and they are going to be 17 and 18 this summer and they still climb the (indoor) trees and jump easily on the bed and 4 flights of stairs-
I do give it once a week due to their age but you can give it 1x a month. Loading dose is a shot every 4 days for 8 shots.
It slows the progression of arthritis.

Thanks for suggestions for Eddie, I will definitely talk to his vet about possibility of arthritis, which never entered my thinking, just concentrating on neuropathy. We are not sure of Eddie's age. He was a stray in our neighborhood when I brought him in in 2007. His vet then said he was a young cat, maybe one or three, so I guess his bones could be getting creaky! He had blood work done in August and his potassium was normal then. I guess it wouldn't hurt to have it drawn again as an abundance of caution. Thanks again for the suggestions. I will look into purchasing essential fatty acids and get him to vet to check for arthritis.
