I am happy to say that Eddie has not had insulin since Jan 30th. His numbers are ok though not quite as low as I would like. I will keep periodically testing him and try and get his weight down. Thanks for your support. Thank you too to the person who recommended a luggage scale form Lee Valley Tools. Its a great low cost option for home weight checks. Eddie weighs in at 20.5 pounds. Needs to get down to 14 or so. Not an easy task. Eddie's new nickname is stealth pig. He sneaks food at every opportunity.

I am still looking for help in controlling his early controlling wakening and meowing/yowling. Damn cat starts meowing by about 6:15 am. I feed him around 6:30 and then he continues his meowing/yowling/mooing until someone gets up. Then he goes back to bed. Shutting him in the basement just increases the amount of yowling/mooing. Seriously, he sounds like an angry cow. I am not a morning person and I live for the day I can sleep in until 8 or later. Leaving frozen food out at night does not help. He will do the meowing routine even if there is food in his dish.
 
Congrats on going OTJ!!! Hoping to be there myself one day, but haven't booked my flight to the falls yet...

Yesterday I found a box of dry food - chewed open in the kitchen cabinet. There was about 1/4 box of kibble remaining... and just a few minutes ago I heard the cabinet door open, called Grayson, and he came sauntering into the diningroom saying "WHAT? You think I did something? No, that wasn't me! I would NEVER sneak food!..." Yeah, right!

Wish I could offer some suggestions about the early risers in your house. I can sometimes convince Dom the dog to go back to sleep, but pretty much everyone else... not so much! Good luck!
 
Yowling and mooing? Sneakers is the sit her butt on your face kind of gal.

If that doesn't work, she turns around and licks herself right in your ear... then it moves to chirping... finally it is the stealth paw to the face- ears, eyes, mouth- whatever it takes.

i stumble to the kitchen and there, in her plate, is food. I grab a spoon, shovel in some water, mix it and leave her happily eating while i go back to bed.

And her times- could be 2:30, though 4:30 is a favorite if she had a late meal the night before. If not then her favorite time is 5:30- just before the alarm goes off to get me semi-awake to start the day.

Oh- and she sneezes directly in my face if she knows i'm awake enough to pet her but not moving out of bed to feed her.

except it is my husband who gets the going over in the morning. Or used to, before I started getting up at 4:30am to feed them, that surpised everybody I think.
MUST get that automatic feeder. When I have time and money. One day.

I set up my meals, premixed in bowls, and stack them into a lunch box in the fridge. So now at 4:30am, I get up, open the fridge, put two bowls on the floor, go to the loo and go back to bed.
 
Eddie was on lantus.

The issue I have with his wake up routine is that it doesn't stop after he has been fed. He also does other stuff like rubbing the heat vent and electrical cords, oh and he purrs. Since he is feeling better, I am sure he will start chewing his toenails again. I just want to sleep in again. Last time this happened was September 2007.

Way to go, Eddie! Good job! We're doing the happy dance at our house today too!

Our guys will come and annoy my husband when he hits the snooze button, typically between 3:30-4am. I sleep through it all :-) dancing_cat dancing_cat dancing_cat
 
Congrats on to Eddie and Mom!! Praying for one day to be able to do the happy dance with Tommy. It can't come soon enough!
I have the same problem with Tommy. He can be quiet all day (as per his daddy if home) and the minute I walk through the door its HOWLING time. I swear he sounds like he is being tortured and will not survive one minute. I usually feed him and the drooly (9 year old long hair chihuahua Leo) and I guess my walking through the door at night signals their dire hunger pangs. Tommy is even worse in the morning before he gets tested. He is my other alarm clock, without the snooze button. He will follow me everywhere until he gets fed and if he doesn't get it soon enough he jumps on daddy's chest and looks straight at him and yells some more. I think its funny and cute, dad not so much.
