Tigger is recovering from his DKA episode and 3 nights of hospitalization this week. Doing ok, and gradually regaining his appetite. This is a cat who would devour a can of food instantly, and still want more. Since the DKA, we have to encourage to finish but he's getting better and he's eating enough to shoot. Tigger is an indoor/outdoor cat...he LOVES the yard, and is a good hunter. But since this happened we've been keeping him inside in case anything he would eat outside would influence his blood sugar, before we go for a recheck next week. A little bit ago he was clawing at the screen door, dying to get outside! I caved, and let him out but I followed him. Sure enough, he started munching on some tall grass/weeds. We quickly got him back inside. My question is this: do cats ONLY eat grass when their tummies are upset, or is it just a normal thing they do? My husband thinks his stomach is still not 100%, and eating grass would confirm that. Then if he were to throw up (like he did when we first discovered his DKA), we'd be worried it's back again. And if he did go outside and eat a mouse or bird...would that influence his BG much? I guess just keeping him inside and ignoring his meowing would be the smartest thing to do at this time, right?
