I am getting all the home testing supplies I need within the next few days with my birthday money. I am getting the meter, test stripes, lancets, wipes, etc. Can someone tell me how to make and use an ear warmer for my cat? Is it basically a "beanbag" made from fabric filled with rice and then microwaved to heat it up? Any help is appreciated.

Take a thinnish sack, fill it with raw rice and knot it. You put it in the microwave until very warm but not hot. The other alternative is to use a prescription bottle and fill it with very warm water.

I woud make a small cotton fabric square bag (like those catnip square toys you see at pet stores) using exta odd sized pieces of scrap fabric I had and fill it with some uncooked rice. I sewed the end close, then tossed the square into the microwave to heat up. Less crafty people can use a small cotton sock instead, fill it with uncooked rice, and knot the end close.

It has to be uncooked regular type rice, not the instant/microwaveable/boil in bag or other type rice. Alternatively, you can use dried beans or peas or uncooked oatmeal.

Heat the sock/bag until very very very warm but not so hot that you burn yourself or your cat while holding it. Try 10 seconds and adjust the time as needed.

I have also used a very warm wash cloth. remember, the meters from walmart, (relion) micro, confirm or the new prime are some of the cheapest meters and strips out there. the later being the cheapest in strips. sadly, the meter prices did go up a bit but that more than makes up for the cost of the strips. I am gonna pick up a prime as soon as all my other strips are gone

Thank you for the help and advice. I planned on getting Relion everything from Wal-Mart. Pokey shall have a nice ear warmer, all the testing equipment, and a nice little bag to keep it all in. You are all very kind and helpful to us. We thank you all again.
