How long does it take for cats' ears to heal after being tested? Because Buddy has OCD and over grooms himself, he has a reduced amount of hair on his ears so I can clearly see the red marks from each time I've poked him. I know we're working with a limited testing area but I don't want to do anything that could cause damage and/or lead to infection.

Always apply direct pressue to the spot after testing. This reduces bruising as well as reducing the scab, so he has less to pick at.

It may help to use Neosporin ointment (not cream) applied to the test area a few minutes before testing, then wiped off to test. The petroleum in it helps the blood bead up and the pain relief reduces the annoyance of testing, plus may reduce the sensation enough that he is less likely to notice and start the OCD grooming..

Thanks for the advice. Try to remember pressure right away and ointment right away, but still new enough to get flustered that it might take a minute before I remember to press and apply the ointment. Hopefully it will all come together in terms of a routine soon!!
