If you look at their SS you can see the great progress my kitties have made. Dasher is two days from remission so today I decided to rest his ears as we will be doing a pre-party curve tomorrow.
Blitzen is at a 69 +12 tonight so I decided not to shoot, he seems to be wanting to have his own OTJ party although its still pretty early in the game.
Feeling hopeful they continue moving forward. I'm sure the vet will be in disbelief if Blitzen go into remission as she couldn't believe Dashers numbers when I gave her his SS.

A question for the experienced one here, would I be better off taking Dasher for that fructosamine test instead of doing my own curve that way they can see a more accurate BS numbers ? I'm thinking it might be a good thing?
 
I am not sure, Robin. But in three and a half years here, I can't recall anyone ever saying there was any real value in a fruct test. My understanding is that the test only shows an average BG over a two week or so time frame.

Ok thanks, I'll save my money and do a pre- party curve at home.
 
Yep the fruct test is only going to give an average. Save the cash and the stress on Dasher.

As already noted above, the fructosamine test is valuable in the early stages as a diagnostic tool. BG can be significantly elevated due to vet stress so when attempting to diagnose diabetes in the vet's surgery a spot check isn't a very reliable indicator. A urine test that is strongly positive for glucose in combination with a blood glucose spot check is a better indicator since it demonstrates that glucose has been spilling into the urine for hours. The fructosamine test will give an indication of average BG for a number of weeks - ideal when confirmation of high BG over a significant period is needed and there is no daily BG test data available, as is the case when attempting to confirm a diabetes Dx. Once a cat has been diagnosed and is receiving treatment, people who don't home test BG may find fructosamine testing valuable because it provides some sort of quantitative measure of how well/poorly a cat is regulated; but the test is largely redundant for cats whose BG is measured regularly at home.
 
Once diagnosed if you are home testing the fructose won't give any information That you don't already have.
 
I had a call into the vet to update her on Blitzen's numbers and she's at a loss for words. She said she's never seen two cats go into remission that quickly and asked if they could of gotten into steroids from one of us, I assured her that it's not possible as none of us even have a steroid in the house. She wants to see a curve once he has been of insulin for 14 days...Dasher will have one too , just too she the effect the food has on them.

I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop with Blitzen as I too am not convinced he's really in remission but time will tell.
