Omigod Mel, I was eating a piece of pepperoni pizza while reading your post and almost choked I was laughing so hard! LOVE the mental imagery..I'm picturing refugees from Maui's condo wearing their cute little uniforms doing Rockette chorus line high kicks.

Gotta take a swig of soda now...

ROFLMAO Hey with 13 cats I have my own chorus line to dance for OTJ parties....And you should see Cupcake in a tutu and tiara doing those high kicks with her little stubby persian style legs...hehehe...Although I haven't quite figured out a way to convince Maxwell to wear a tutu yet... but he certainly has the long legs to do the kicks. ohmygod_smile

LOL...you gals are too funny! Get the dancers warming up...he's doing great! 3 days and so far so good! He was 55 when I checked him this evening

Hey he is only 10 points lower than the last time I checked Musette....however, with her I don't expect it to last...sigh. She is just doing it to me to throw off everyone's feeding schedule because she wants to sleep in with the electric blanket on...lol

Well can you blame her? That sounds pretty cozy! Especially since I refuse to turn on the heat yet. But right now I have a nice warm purring kitty on my lap. Jack was on my lap earlier...now it's Tucker's turn. :-)

She was 64 when I checked her at her pmps then feed her waited two hours and just rechecked her....now she is at 53...guess we won't be shooting tonight. But I'm going to bet she will be high in the morning....I really wish she would read those damn stickies on how Lantus is SUPPOSE to work...lol. Leave it to a tortie to be difficult.

That is to be expected - the little burbles in numbers. Was that before you fed him? Often, food will being the number down in a few hours.

Remember, 126 is still a "normal" number. Beau got up to 163 on his 3rd day OTJ and brought himself down with food to 123 in 2 hrs. And a few days later he had a 138 that climbed to 148 (I was worried!), but the next morning he was 81. He tends to range from 75-125ish, more often in the 80 or 90s. Golly, I just saw my last test of him was 5 months ago yesterday!

I did have a situation with him 3 months into OTJ where he got into some bread that my kittens got down from a shelf and he soared into the 300s, brought himself back down, but couldn't sustain it. He need a few doses of .05u over 9 days (basically sid) to get him back on track.

Thanks Sheila. Yes, the 136 was before he ate. This morning he was 96 before food. He seems to run higher in the mornings, lower in the evenings anyways.

I guess my big question is at what number should I give a shot if I need to? Would you base it on a few higher readings in a row, I assume? not just one high number?
I think I saw that on Beau's spreadsheet about the bread...silly boy!

On another note...I had to break down and put the heat on for a little bit. We had snow last night! UGH!!!!

Ugh, no snow - not yet, please! (I turned on the heat about a week ago after several days in the 50s).

I set a do not shoot number for Beau. If you look at his SS, both in the days right before OTJ started and during the days after the bread fiasco, you can see that even a small amount of insulin caused some deep drops. I think my number was 130, but sometimes I waited until a second number above 130 if he gave me a low 130s.

It just has to be based on how Jack is able to bring himself down and from what number - and how much he drops from even the tiniest dose.

I think that if Jack is really ready to go OTJ he will waver a bit but be coming down overall. If he still needs a bit on an assist his numbers will be wonkier and the lows he manages after a higher number will be not as low as before - an overall raising trend.

So we have not had power, heat, hot water since Saturday due to the freak snowstorm. Trees and power lines down all over. Probably no power for another week! UGH! At panera's now for wifi...very slow and can't get into Jack's spreadsheet. Here's how he has been since I could last post.

10/30 AM 102 PM 83
10/31 AM 115 PM 101
11/1 AM 115 PM 135

Will check him when I get home. He was out of food and I hadn't filled the auto feeder, so I hope he is down a little. They have been cold and in the dark a lot. :-( Maybe a little stressed. Will try to update when I can!

Oh gosh, I hope you get power back on soon! They probably are a little stressed. I bet you are too!

Hang in there. His numbers are looking good. Don't forget that if he is eating right before/after the test time that could bring the numbers down further mid "cycle". Can you get a test 2-3 hrs after he eats?

Still no power and now home from work sick with a bad cold. Called out sIck early then went back to sleep and didn't get to check Jack until 9:30am. He was out of food and was 181. Fed him and at 11:30 he was 163; then at 2:30 98. So I was glad to see he brought himself down. Will try to get in a few extra tests.

At least it is warm outside and the sun is out. My gym is open so I took the kids with me there for hot showers! This is not fun, though! They estimate we should get it back by Sunday night, but Isure hope its sooner than that!

Oh no, still no power? Since last Saturday? That is terrible! And being sick on top of that. :(

No wonder Jack is riding a little higher than usual. He probably senses your being stressed out from all this. I hope you feel better soon and the power comes back on. I can't imagine how hard this must be for your family.

So...day 7, still no power! But as I left the house there were trucks coming up my street. Not sure if they were just to cut trees or to repair power lines, but I hope it gets done soon! This is getting really old...and cold!

Anyways...went out to connect to some wifi, but forgot to bring all Jack's numbers with me to post! This morning he was 125. Last night he did have another 183, but came down to 97 2 hours after eating. So I haven't given him any insulin. Not sure if it is just stress and being cold and everything going on. Will try to get all his numbers up as soon as I can. We are hanging in there for now!

Geeze, that is terrible (the power thing, not Jack's numbers  )

I hope your get your power on this weekend. Do you have a fireplace or any way to have even a little heat? What are you doing for meals?

YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! power is back on this evening! Heat and hot water, woohoo! No fireplace Sheila, just lots of blankets and layers. My stove is propane so at least I could cook on the stovetop. We went out a few times too, once other places started getting power back. It was a very long week!

So as for Mr. Jack, he had those few 180's, but for the most part he has been pretty good. I'm not sure how much of that was in reaction to the change in routine, the cold, etc. I got his spreadsheet all updated tonight. What do you think???

I am so glad you got your power back on! Yay! :RAHCAT :thumbup

I like to look for trends, which, unfortunately with Jack show he is slightly increasing over time. On the first few days w/o shots he had some 80s and mostly below 100, now he is getting lows in the 90s but mostly above 100... however, because of the power situation, I'd wait several more days and see if he starts to revert to the 80-100 range. He might. If he doesn't then he probably needs a little boost of .05u when he is over 130 or so. Beau got sporadic .05u shots for while - like once a day, none, bid, once, none, etc... before he was ready to fly solo.

I was not real happy with the increasing numbers over the past several days either, but this morning he was 103 and this evening 68. So I'm hoping now that he is warmer and not in the dark he will settle back down again. I will wait a few days and see how he does. Thanks for the advice on giving a small dose if he starts rising again. Today is day 14 OTJ but I still feel like it's a precarious OTJ and I can't celebrate yet!

It's funny...when it was really cold in here I could not get him to sleep in bed with me or sit on my lap. But last night the heat was back on and he slept on my legs then sat on my lap this afternoon. Go figure!

That's great that he is coming down now! Happy 14 days OTJ, Jack! (knock wood, anti jinx).

Maybe he blamed you for the cold and was snubbing you? That's funny though. Beau sits on my lap or burrows under my down throw when it is chilly - or when he was over medicated with methimazole and went way hypothyroid in August 2 years ago. That was how I knew he was hypo-T - he was burrowing under blankets and it was 80 degrees out.

So he was in the 90's today...I'm still keeping my fingers crossed and am a little nervous. But overall he's doing well. He's been very alert and really following me all over, sleeping with me at night and being my little shadow lately!
