I'm finding that Tuck's dose is lasting somewhere between 14-18 hours. Not sure if this is just 'him' or a sign he will eventually go into remission. When I do shoot him, I'm estimating a dose somewhere between .25 and .5 units.

I'm away for 4 days next week. I think I'm instructing the cat sitter (vet tech) not to give him any insulin unless he reaches 300. His dose is so small and I'm afraid of him going hypo when no one is here.

I think that sounds wise. Maybe pull up some colored water on a syringe as a model for her to compare to the insulin syringe. It's only 4 days. You can get him back on track.

At one time Goof was only getting one shot per day. I don't know why as its only supposed to last up to 12 hours, but he got 2 units, once a day, then went into remission for about 6 months. Unfortunately, an abscessed tooth and a UTI brought him back out and we've yet to achieve it again.

Thanks @Mogmom and Goofus . Tuck is in serious need of a dental which is scheduled in a few weeks. I'm hoping that once that's done he may go into remission. I doubt he will before his teeth are addressed.

I hope Goofus goes back OTJ.

Boy, me too! I want to go away for a couple of days and what a royal pain in the drain it is to find someone to test and shoot him!

I'm finding finding someone who will test is the biggest problem - I found someone who can shoot, but cannot understand the need to test
Most pet sitters do not test - - probably from most vets thinking it is unnecessary

My new pet sitter came yesterday. A vet tech from the practice I use. I could tell from the conversation that she shoots other diabetic pets but I'm not so sure she's been instructed to test them before . I went through it carefully with her and hope she carries through.

Tuck is on a teeny tiny dose right now. Last night's dose at 11:30 PM was his first insulin in 28 hours. I gave him a few drops because he was at 222. My instructions for the pet sitter are unless he reaches 300+ don't give him anything. I hope she is able to test him. No test needs to mean no insulin for him right now.

I'm putting a lot of energy into testing him because, like everyone here, I really want him to go into remission. My vet never instructed me to test this much. Makes me wonder how many cats who are getting high doses are really bouncing from too much insulin. Tuck was dipping down into the 50's and then bouncing up to really high numbers. If I only looked at the highs it could have been tragic. Scary. Luckily, the tiniest amount is keeping him in the blue zone for >24 hours. I'm satisfied with that but hope he continues on a path to remission.
