Good morning everyone,
Tested this morning after no food all night so that he would eat in the morning after his huge meal last night.
He was at 350. When I have some time (like a whole day when I am home.) I am going to do a full curve because now I am not convinced that 1 unit every 12 hrs is enough for him. So we will see.

Duncan is convinced that it's the meter that is hurting his ear. LOL so, he ran off a few feet and meowed at me this morning when I was testing him, as if to say, "What the heck lady!" He came back and let me finish though.

I will keep in touch, but this is one heck of a busy day for us here.

You may actually be surprised how much 1u twice a day will bring him down. :-D

One of the best ways to get them to come to love, yes love, being tested is TREATS. I adopted both of my diabetics as diabetics so we had a big fat zero on the bonding front...But Musette who is still insulin dependent not only purrs through her testing she actually comes to remind me that it is testing time if I'm running late, because she knows that for letting me do a quick prick of her ear she gets her yummy treat.

What we use for treats around here is either plain boiled chicken or right now turkey, sometimes just for variety she also gets a couple bites of sardines , tuna, or salad shrimp. In fact both cats have gotten so use to testing equaling treats that Maxwell who has been in remission for over a year, still comes running when he hears the meter turn on looking for his test and treats as well.. :lol:

On the Lantus forum, you can read about Lantus' shed. The insulin does not work immediately in most cats but forms a shed and then starts to work in the body:

And as Mel says, your numbers today will give you lots more info. She is also right about treats. They are a vital part of this process!

So be patient and try for at least one test mid cycle today.
 
Also, neosporin ointment (not cream) with pain relief, applied a couple minutes before testing, helps reduce the annoyance of being pricked.
