Hello again.
For those members who remember me and helped me and Duke when he was first diagnosed with diabetes 5 years ago i cannot thank you enough for all the help and advice you gave me.
Unfortunately and very sadly we had to let our lovely boy Duke go yesterday, not diabetes related but cancer.
He was passing blood in his stools at the the start of this year and scans confirmed the worst that he had growths in his colon, lungs and pancreas and the only option for him was palliative care.
We opted against any chemo treatment for Duke as it was terminal and he was only given a few months max to live so why ruin what time he had left being ill with the chemo/travelling etc.
Duke sadly started to get more and more slower and thinner over the last couple of months as the cancer took over and he just took it all in his stride, even his vet was surprised at how he was coping during his weekly/fortnightly checkups but he took really ill on Monday with vomiting and diarrhoea, he was really weak and could hardly stand up so we took him to the vets where they admitted him for fluids etc.
The vet called later in the day to say he deteriorated badly throughout the day and we need to make the decision.
Duke lived 8 months since his cancer diagnosis which was longer than anyone expected, so that was a blessing.
I have not been on the forum for a while due to personal reasons and caring for Duke but again i would like to thank you for all your help and invaluable advice for without it Duke wouldn't have lived for 5 years with his diabetes.
Fly high Dukey boy.
