Dry stool - suggestions

Hi,

Buddy is getting the occasional dry stool, it comes and goes. We use to put canned pumpkin in his food, which made a difference. But not that he is a DB kitty is there any thing else we can consider, most canned pumpkin has sugar in it. Would love some input and ideas.

Also he does a an allergy issue. We think its related to poultry, starch, corn and wheat. Though never confirmed it seems to correlate with past events when he was eating this stuff he develops some pretty bad sores.
 
It's usually the pumpkin pie filling that has sugar - you should be able to find just plain canned pumpkin that's sugar-free. Extra water mixed in his food may also help.

Hopefully you are feeding canned or raw? That extra moisture is pretty important- not just for the kidneys, but for the stools, as well.

Avoiding wheat, corn and starch is important for diabetics, anyway, so hopefully, he won't be getting any more of that. Read the can labels for wheat gluten, as well, which is a pretty common allergen. (Hope it's
not poultry!)
 
Whole Foods has plain canned pumpkin- no additives. If they don't have it in stock, they may be able to order it for you, it's not a strictly seasonal item. Sorry I can't help more.
 
My kitty prefers butternut squash to pumpkin so I microwave until soft, then mash adding water to make it like baby food.
 
We add water to our kitty's meals and he doesn't seem to mind them soupy. Some of us also use a little Miralax - it dissolves in the water and is tasteless. Check with your vet first before using something like that, though.
 
When Yittle was on pain killers after his leg injury we found he had the same problem. A few dollops of 100% organic canned pumpkin and some water mixed in his food, plus a little extra fat in his diet (chicken cooked in bacon grease and olive oil) did the trick.
