been feeding him only wet food but I gave him 10 pieces of Hills Science Diet glucose management as a treat it's $25 a bag should I get him young again instead or what's a good dry food brand that Kmart sells I only have a Kmart in the Virgin Islands

Glucose management my boyfriends taking care of my cat is anyone know how many carbs are in hillside Glucmanagement what's the best alternative maybe I could order something Online I don't know

I suspect you'll need to order online and I'm not sure if they'll ship to the Virgin Islands.

Have you considered making your own food? There is a raw food recipe at Cat Info you could try. Dr Pierson discusses it on this page.

The Hill's Prescription Diet Glucose Management dry food, also known as Hill's W/d, is really high in carbs, around 37%. It's what the cat shelter and vets had my diabetic cat Wink eating before I took him in as a foster. Unfortunately, that W/d dry was keeping him at unregulated blood glucose levels. Once I switched Wink from the high carb dry to wet food, he quickly went OTJ (off-the-juice, insulin being the juice).

I know your food choices are more limited since you live in the Virgin Islands. I think BJM's idea to make your own food might meet your needs very well.

p.s. Would you please consider putting some information in your User Control Panel for us? It would be really helpful if you would update your information so we have your location, and a bit of information in your signature such as your name, cat's name, diagnosis date, insulin used, meter used for testing, any pertinent health information for your cat on other health issues, etc. Thanks for considering this request.

To edit your signature:

Go to the top left of the screen.
Click on User Control Panel.
Click on Profile
Click on Edit Signature
A text box displays.
This is where you paste the link for your spreadsheet, once it is set up.

Add any other text, such as
your name, cat's name,
city, state,country
date of Dx (diagnosis)
insulin
meter
any other pertinent issues like food issues, allergies, IBD,

etc.
Then Click on Submit to save it.

Ok Thanks I updated my profile. So I think I'll order the young again and give 10 pieces a day as treats instead of the hills MD because it's low in carbs right?

You could use the Young Again as treats. Keep in mind that a cat is small and dehydrated food is calorie dense, so maybe 1-2 treats at test time only will be needed.

If it is very warm and humid, you may want to package up some of it in airtight containers for storage until needed, possibly in the freezer, to avoid issues with mold growth and the fats going rancid. Those can be issues with any dry food.

Hi Laurie!

Thank you so much for putting those tidbits of information in your profile. It may not seem like much, but it really does help us lots to have that info at the end of your posts.

Would you be willing to do one more update for us? Put in your location. Go to User Control Panel, Profile tab, Edit Profile and put Virgin Islands in the Location field, submit to save.

You're kind of unique, in that you live in the Virgin Islands. Don't have many members in the Caribbean area. Some things that are available here in the US can not be found down there. By having your location in your profile, we'll be able to see that at a glance and put a bit of extra thought into our replies about food and such.

Knowing your were in VI was probably why BJM suggested you keep some of the dry in the freezer, thinking it's warm and more humid down there year round.
