Dry food for recovered cat

Hi, my cat Jason was diagnosed last November. His blood sugar was 495 and it took about 3 weeks to get under control with insulin and I weened him off about 3 months later. He is 13 and had been eating nature’s domain gf (from Costco) before. He is now on fancy feast twice a day and has Putin’s diabetic dry available all the time.

I would like to stop using the diabetic dry food and find a better one for him because I am worried his blood sugar is too low (59 to 110). He is always asking for different food as he is not a fan of wet and doesn’t like the purina diabetic. I would also like to get another cat and not have to worry about separate food.

We lost his brother just before he was diagnosed to stomach cancer and I think Jason may have eaten some of his urgent care prescription food or spit out steroid pills which may have led to the diabetic time but I am only guessing.

Any suggestions on a good dry food that will help maintain a healthy blood sugar in a recovered cat?

If those numbers are on a human meter, they are perfect! Normal blood glucose for cats (using human meter) is 50-120. On a pet meter, it's 68-150

There's absolutely no reason you need to feed the diabetic dry at all. It's actually too high in carbs for a diabetic (even a diet controlled one). You're paying a premium price for inferior grade ingredients and a well known name (and big advertising budget). There's nothing in the "prescription" foods that actually treat diabetes.

If you insist on having a dry food in the house, there are 2 that are both low carb and good quality. Dr. Elsey's Clean Protein (chicken flavor) and Young Again Zero are the only 2 types of kibble that are OK for a diabetic....and would also be fine for a non-diabetic.

Thank you! The readings are from the alpha track 2 pet meter. I would only serve wet but I give him half a can twice a day and he barely eats any. Maybe a bite or two.

I will try the brands you recommended.

@Jasoncat13 If I read your post correctly, Jason is no longer receiving insulin? If that is case, then you have no need to worry about the low numbers. Cats don't go hypo without insulin. If I am reading wrong, please disregard.

And @Chris & China (GA) has given you the only two really acceptable dry foods, but feeding none is better.
