LB's numbers are coming down! its been very exciting for us to find this happening. My dad died a week ago today and so it happened at a time when we were pre-occupied with my dad. It almost seems like a parting gift from dad. It's weird how you look for messages from your newly departed loved ones. Anyway we've dropped the amount of insulin a little and are getting ready to drop it again. Does it mean that the pancreas could be healing itself? I think the protocol is to leave it 3 days to drop once the level has been maintained. He is still eating/demanding food in the small hours of the morning. I've been clawed in the face a couple of times for not waking up when he's starving!

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad....my deepest sympathy to you and yours.

Have you ever tried freezing some watered food in ice cubes trays and leaving a puck out when you go to bed? When it defrosts it will be ready to eat and that might save you from getting clawed in the middle of the night....Some people use timed feeders to the night time snacks too...

So sorry to hear about your dad. I hope the distraction of your sugar kitty at this time helps you deal with your situation. Dropping numbers and getting reductions are always nice!

I'm sorry to hear about your dad. I'm glad that Little Boy's numbers are a positive point of focus for you know. I absolutely believe that our loved ones can send little messages. It's nice to think of your dad helping LB to brighten your day.

Thank you for your caring thoughts. My situation with dad was very difficult. My family belong to a controlling religious sect/cult which put me in an awkward situation re being with him. Because of Cat's diabetes my husband and I made separate visits interstate to be with him. Hubby was away for two weeks and had only just come home when dad died - I missed seeing him before he died because I didn't feel I could trust anyone to look after LB - but I had been talking to dad on skype until the day before he died. I emailed the cattery about leaving him with them and they phoned me for a chat about it - very concerned and kindly. they are used to looking after cats with diabetes but I don't feel twice daily feeding suits a cat with diabetes. LB gets very anxious when he's hungry and that can't be good for his numbers. A small feed often is better - a big cattery cannot cater for this level of care.

I have been putting frozen food next to our bed which defrosts thru the nite but Cat needs me to unwrap it. Last nite it wasn't wrapped in plastic (saucer over it which he knows how to remove) - he ate it after we went to sleep and nipped my husband on the arm for his 5am food. He isn't vicious just letting us know he's there and waiting.

I have been deluged with visitors this last couple of weeks and everyone is saying how well LB is looking.

I know that I'm not the perfect follower of FDMB but we are doing the very best that we can. When hubby away Cat refused to be bg tested until his tummy full and he'd been for his morning walk. I decided that it was better for my sanity to go with the flow. Cat is on our minds all the time. We don't go out for any length of time without testing him and making sure his levels are ok - doing this has saved us a hypo event a couple of times IMO. I am feeling mildly confident that we are on track. With hubby around he goes immediately to the chair to await the BG test first thing in the morning. He knows he can't get out of it when there are two of us to manage him. It's so interesting that they seem to know they are being helped.

thanks for the supporting replies.

I'm so sorry about your dad. The situation sounds very difficult.

But Little Boy is doing great! You are looking for a number under 50 to signal another dose reduction. He has already been close to 50 on this dose, so that number will probably be coming soon.

LB is very smart! I love that he knows how to remove the saucer from his food.

Many of the people who use those cat food frozen patties just freeze them in plastic bags. That way they pop out individually, and you don't have to unwrap them. Maybe you could get a little extra rest.

LB is much loved, I can tell.
