Drawing up a "drop" of insulin - am I doing it right?

So, generally speaking Tink is currently on .25u of ProZinc... but I've had a few mid-200's PS numbers, in which case I'm only giving a "drop" when I can't be there to test mid-cycle.

I've been drawing up insulin, then putting drops of it on a fresh-from-the-dishwasher item, then drawing up the drops. However, it seems that two drops is MORE than .25u - which I found surprising. It also seems like 1 drop is JUST shy of .25u. Am I doing it right?

I'm also concerned because once I draw the "drop" back up into the needle... when I expell the air from the needle, I often get a "bubble" - which I'm afraid then reduces the size of the drop! ACK!

Can't they just make a weaker insulin for cats so we can deal with doses we can actually MEASURE effectively!?!? ohmygod_smile

Hi Jen,

Are you still waiting on the U100s? The way I have heard of drops being done is to draw up a syringe of water to a spot you can easily measure (like the .25). Then let out drops till it is gone (and keep count). The next time, with insulin, draw up to .25 and let out that number of drops but for one.

OH! I like that idea better! :)

Yes, I've ordered the u100's but waiting on them to arrive. I'm hoping they're as "easy to read" as they say they are. In the meantime... my ProZinc syringes (came in a fancy little kit for triple what it's worth, lol) dont even have half marks - so I'm gonna be counting out a lot of drops. :)

Dang... my order hasn't even SHIPPED yet and I placed it 2 days ago! NOT COOL. :(

ETA: Oops... my bad. It shipped the next day (yesterday). Order confirmation went to my inbox, but shipping conf. went to my spam folder. Go figure. :)
