Drawing from the insulin vile

Every single time I draw for Pumpkin's dose, there is always the tiniest bubble that appears in the syringe. There is never any way to get rid of it. I believe it's caused by whatever tiny amount of air may be in the needle. I push the plunger all the way down before drawing. And, I release the air that was in the syringe into the air that is in the bottle. Not the medicine because I have heard that it can contaminate the medicine.

However, it seems more logical that if I draw in medicine and then shoot it back into the vile and redraw, it would eliminate the issue with the tiny bubble problem.

Is that something that may be an option? Or is it better recommended that I don't?

I haven't done it since I heard I'm not supposed to, though. But, it just seems as if no air is better.

Try pulling your dose out....then remove the needle from the vial and pull in more air. Thwap the syringe several times to get the bubble to move up into the air you just pulled in and then push the air out, leaving the insulin (hopefully without the bubble).

Good idea! Thank you.

[i hate this too.. :D i have found pulling in a small amount and then tapping the syringe does help and you can pretty much maneuver the big bubbles towards the center of the needle (keep your eye underneath so u can see) with taps and then can push out.. only thing is a few drops are lost here and there in the sink ;( but will be trying this tip tho too :) tried it w water once which wasnt successful, but the medicine might be different..]

I tested with water too, but it didn't work that time.

I tried the new method this morning, and there seemed to be less of a bubble.

y'know.. tried what was suggested.. just gave me a bigger bubble lol *cries. maybe need to practice.. but y'know what I've found.. getting really good at drawing in a tiny little more than needed, tap tap tapping just as needed to move the bubbles towards the needle, pushing them out, lose tiny bits of meds in process, but honestly, think that's the way ppl do it and won't be using all of vial right anyway based off the date that is stated....THO is it true Vetsulin, other insulins, ppl find have a longer shelf life than what's suggested? they're getting months? (???) cuz I'll tell ya I heard the ONLY reason Vetsulin has a date that it does it because THE STUDY only lasted that long.. not cause they was seeing how long the vial was really good for..... :banghead:o_O.......

I was told that I do not need to buy insulin every month. But, IDK about Vetsulin - That's interesting.

What seems to work for me and became sort of a habit is to "lube" the syringe with a tiny amount of insulin prior to drawing the actual dose.
I'd draw about a unit and pull the plunger way down, deliberately creating air in the syringe. Then squirt that out into the sink, and draw another dose that I intend to inject. It's bit of a hit and miss, but works about 80% of times - sometimes works so well, the initial amount I drew and was intended to discard ends up without bubbles and I can shoot it.

it IS interesting.. smh. so it is probably good for longer. but the only way to tell is trial and error and based off the vial you have at the time. :blackeye:

you’re not supposed to put the insulin back in the vial once you have drawn it out, but here’s some advice posted by another one of our members that has helped them:

Do u mean the bubble that us in the syringe after drawing ou the insulin? Here is what I do...flick with light strength at first to force the bibble into the very middle top. if doesn't work after mamy flicks, begin flicking a lil bit harder. If the bubble still will not get into the very middle, pull back some air into the syringe until u have a nice level air pocket. then try pushing back out all the air. This normally gets all the air out with no bubble. if another bubble appears at this time, i can usually flick it to the middle easier!

Ah, that sounds good! Thank you! I will try.
