Dr. Lisa's Food List - Sorted

Michelangelo is highly carb sensitive (less than 5% works best for him), he started out as a kitten diabetic (needing higher protein), and he's also allergic to red meats (beef, venison, rabbit, and lamb so far). This has really limited my food selection when shopping. I also try to feed him seafood only once a week and have been shocked by some of the foods that contain fish as an ingredient (like FF Chicken Feast). (Fish oil, on the other hand, is usually okay since it contains minimal to no fish protein.) Because of all these dietary restrictions, I've sorted through Dr. Lisa's list a million and one times, finding new foods that contain seafood, discovering more red meats Mikey is allergic to, etc....

I figured it wasn't fair of me to sit on it, so if you want another food list here is my version. There are five tabs to it:
  • The complete list from catinfo.org, sorted by carbs, then protein/fat ratio, then phos/100kcals (if someone thinks it's better to sort by phos DM, let me know, but I haven't really paid attention to phosphorus levels aside from making sure they weren't too high), then by brand and flavor.
  • The foods <10% carbs that DO NOT contain seafood (red meats and poultry)
  • The foods <10% carbs that ONLY contain poultry (i.e. duck, chicken, quail, egg, turkey, etc....)
  • The foods <10% carbs that DO contain seafood
  • My personal shopping list for Mikey containing foods I haven't tried yet and personal favorites (the whole reason this sorting started in the first place).

I'm human, so therefore fallible, and I'm also discovering more and more foods that secretly contain fish, so I might have missed a couple. Please feel free to correct and let me know. :-D I've also got a 9Lives food list somewhere to merge into this one but that one is saved on my other computer. I also hope to eventually add another column with local prices, but I haven't gotten around to that yet (they're hand-written on my printed copy).

This is really great. I was just looking at this yesterday! I am trying to get some good food not just for my diabetic kitty but for my others too!

The credit goes to Dr. Lisa and Janet & Binky, who spent something like over 500 hours, IIRC.

An additional note about the "Mikey's shopping list" tab is that I only included foods with >50% protein/fat ratio.

Wow - this is terrific! I made a spreadsheet with many that we use, but this makes it easy not to have to flip back and forth between the carbs and phosphorus tables. Thank you for sharing!
