Dr Elsey's dry for pancreatitis / IBD

Hello all, my cat Jack Jack was diagnosed with diabetes and pancreatitis last September after a hospital stay. He also has IBD. Before diabetes diagnosis, he was on prednisolone for his IBD, along with prescription food. He is now off the prednisolone, and I am feeding him FF pate and Dr. Elsey's clean protein chicken flavor dry. I realize, however, that the Dr. Elsey's is high in fat. Would that be contraindicated for his pancreatitis and/or IBD? Is there a lower fat low-carb dry food I could give him? He absolutely loves dry food and I'd hate to not be able to give it to him anymore. He only gets 1/4 cup of the Dr. Elsey's in his bowl every 12 hours, but he still has tummyaches and very loose stools. No vomiting and his appetite is always good, but normally he is very social and friendly and I can tell he's not feeling well when his stools are very loose and he hides under the bed instead of being social.

Have you tried feeding your cat a novel protein diet? With IBD, novel proteins may help with all of the GI symptoms. Proteins like chicken, beef and fish are common problems for cats with IBD. A protein source such as rabbit, venison, etc. are likely going to be better. There are freeze dried and air dried raw options as well as canned foods. I really like this website on Raw Feeding for IBD Cats. Whether you opt for a raw diet, they have good basic information on pancreatitis and the section on meds and supplements is very helpful.

This is our primer on pancreatitis. You may find the information helpful. The issue of fat in the diet is an outdated issue.
