Just stopping by to say, "HEY!!" I hope all is well in PZI-Land. Been checking on y'all when I could. The last couple of days we've been posting in the TR group, if y'all want to come over and see us sometime. There are a lot of people in that group, so I've been doing more stalking than anything - trying to learn names, etc.

Hershey took to Levemir right off...maybe a little too good. After last Friday's hypo incident, we cut the dose in half (to .25u), which proved to do nothing. Now, we've increased (This is the 3rd cycle.) to a skinny .5u and we're hoping he's settling into it.

Up now at the +6 to test/feed. Had planned to wait until +7, but Mr. Mouthy has been talking ever since we went to bed no matter what I said or did. So, decided to go ahead at +6 so at least Doug could sleep. Watching Oreo finish Hershey's food - crazy cat. Won't eat Wellness from his own bowl, but will eat it after Hershey. Maybe Hershey's saliva makes it taste better, who knows? :roll: And, now Hershey goes back to finish his food...AS IF Oreo left any?!?!

Doug is in bike school this week for his job and today was their 20 mile ride. No problem for him. But, about 1/2-way in he hit a rock and took a nasty fall. Good thing he was able to do a partial tuck before hitting the ground. He skinned up his hands, left forearm, shoulder and knee. BUT - he finished the ride! So glad it wasn't worse than it was. Hope he's not too sore tomorrow.

Well, guess I should get to bed, maybe Hershey will let me sleep since he's fat and happy. Y'all have a great day and come see us, when you can!

Got a call from Doug ~ an hour ago saying he was on the way to the ER. They were practicing going really fast and stopping quickly. He went over the handle bars and they think his (right) shoulder may be broken. My nutjob husband said, "It just didn't work out this time." No kidding! It's hard sitting here and not being with him there. But, we figured by the time I could get there he'd be on his way home. HOPING he gets seen that quickly!

Prayers appreciated!!

My supervisor keeps trying to get me to take a training class so I can become a "Bike Mounted Ranger". I'm figuring I'd have the same thing happen to me as happened to Doug today, so I keep saying "ah, no thanks...." When I was 16, I really didn't care if I took a flying leap over the handlebars. Heck, scars looked cool, and it got you a lot of sympathy from the young girls!!! But at 53? Sometime between 16 and 50, I figured out I was no longer immortal. I'd rather fall over laughing after seeing my supervisor crash on his bike than have to go to the ER because something or other got broken, thank you very much!

Doug, I hope you get some sort of extra pay for getting bike certified? Feel better soon, buddy.

paha, Carl, love the smilies! Just heard from Doug. No broken bones, but something is 'separated' so he's to follow up with orthopedics and is done with the class for the week. Glad it wasn't worse, but he's been wanting to take this class for a while, so I hate it for him. Coming home with a sling and good drugs! :-D

I hear ya' about scars looking cool. Joseph took a spill on his bike similar to what Doug described he did today. Only Joseph wasn't wearing a helmet. He had 9 stitches to the forehead and informed me scars were cool. boys!!

I'm guessing some sort of law enforcement? Bikes can go places cars can't fit.

Libby, I'd tell Doug "no painkillers until AFTER you take me out to dinner!"

Doug is home and semi-comfortably resting while we're watching "Finding Nemo" and counting down the minutes until he can have more pills. After hearing the story of today's accident, it could've been a lot worse, making us extra thankful! Sure hoping they can see him SOON!

Now if Hershey will just cooperate with the increase (from skinny .5u to .5u) and stay in nice numbers!

Glad Doug wasn't hurt any worse. YIKES!!! Something about boys and their toys.... and this was for work, you said? If it's his shoulder that's separated, he may need to join the dive team instead, and spend some time at the pool building up the shoulder... OUCH!

Wishing him a speedy recovery, and you a good patient! :lol:

DAY 2 - Yesterday's supervisor said Doug needed to see today's supervisor to get approval to see the employee health type person. Today's supervisor was in meetings until after lunch. He called and said it needed to be done online; then called back and said we DID need to come. Waited for him, did paperwork, he sent it over to employee health and we headed to the other side of town. Got there and they knew nothing of us coming - ARGH! Finally saw Doug, paperwork, same questions...PA didn't seem to really understand why Doug hadn't already been helped. MY QUESTION EXACTLY!

Time all was said and done it was the end of business day, so no appt, yet. We're waiting to hear from the PA and hoping to get Doug in tomorrow. Clearly, the people who made this system have never had to USE this system or they'd make some changes...

OHHHHH - And, I left the whole box of insulin out overnight - AND, either it's gone bad or I gave at least a partial fur shot this morning! Let's just say it hasn't been a stellar day...SO glad the next cycle begins in :45 - WOOT!!!

I've worked for both the state and Fed government and they are both the same.....Paperwork.....Paperwork.....Paperwork.....especially when it comes to any kind of injury.

Hope Doug is feeling a little better.

Maybe Hershey just felt the stress of Doug and maybe why he was high....

Another day ahead..... :-D

Got an appt at orthopedics today! :-D

They took more X-rays and confirmed it's at least a 2nd degree separation. Third degree would require surgery. More pain meds, Ibuprofen and added a muscle relaxer. He can return to work Monday with restrictions (like not using that arm, no lifting, etc.) and has a follow-up next Thursday. The hope is the swelling will have gone down enough for the next set of X-rays to show for certain the degree.

Joseph is home for the weekend (YAY!) and starving, so guess I'm heading to the kitchen!

Thanks, Everybody. They added muscle relaxers for Doug and want him to take them 3 times a day...this should be fun ;-)

Here's an exchange between me and my Physical Therapist after I separated my shoulder . . .

Me: (lifting arm) "It hurts when I do THIS"
PT: "Well, don't do that!"

Just some advice :)
I hope Doug feels better soon.

:lol: :lol: :lol: Sue, his was more like wincing in pain and the PA saying okay, keep going to see how far you can do this. At one point, even the PA was wincing and I thought I was going to have to intervene! If you can 'feel' it at 45 degrees, then YES! 90 degrees is going to HURT!! for goodness sake -

But, apparently the muscle relaxers are GOOD stuff! Doug took his first one and sat down to watch a movie with us. Good thing he had already seen it ;-)
 
Hey, Y'all -

Just stopping in to say, "HEY!" and give y'all a quick update. Doug saw the doc today and was less than pleased to have to hold a 10-lb weight for these new X-rays. The doc is holding on the surgery option to see what PT can do over the next 2 weeks. He was able to get in to PT this afternoon and they gave him some exercises to do at home. He can also go without the sling at home (like he hasn't been doing that for DAYS?!). He said he was feeling okay when he got home, but by supper was hurting enough to take a pain pill. PT isn't for sissies!

Hershey seems to like the Lev. This is the 4th cycle on the increase to .75u and the first green we've had since 6/15. Tonight, we shot .75u into (118)! :o A little nervous about it, not gonna lie, but I plan to check him often and know there are people checking in on us. Come visit us in the TR group, if y'all get a chance -

Years ago, I really trashed my upper back, and had to go to PT to try to rehab my shoulders/lats. So I'm laying on this table face down, and this little tiny young lady just out of school comes in to do some sort of deep tissue massage. She may have weighed 90 lbs soaking wet. She proceeded to make me shed tears with just two little tiny fingers. Then she hands me this 1 lb "barbell", and has me do some sadistic exercises with it. After 15 minutes, dripping sweat, my shoulders felt like I'd been drawn and quartered. She tells me I can stop, and I look and she's got this cute little grin on her face that said "I thought you were a manly man...???". Never felt so defeated in my life! Next PT session, at least I didn't cry. :oops:

Doug. I feel for ya.
