Hello all! Just came back from the vet! We start lantus 1 Unit every 12h! Does it sound good to you? The thing is that Both me and my husband we work 10h per day! We leave house at 11am and we are back at 10pm! That means that the shots would be at 10am and at 10pm. So for the first cycle We will be able to test only +1h after the shot! Off course we will test before the shot! The problem is only with the morning cycle!! Any advice is welcomed

One thing that helped me to feel a little better when I had a diabetic kitty and a long work day schedule, was to get as many night time tests as I could, and to get up extra early in the morning and take a PM +11 test which I could compare to the AM pre-shot test. So, if I had to leave at 7am and shot time was at 6am, I would take (PM +11) 5am test and when I compared that to the 6am pre-shot test at least I knew then if his BGs were falling (or rising or flat) before I gave the insulin. If falling, I could then think about giving a lesser dose or leaving out more higher carb food than usual for him for the day. If I was worried, I would run home real fast at lunch for a quick test and feed. Other than that, all I could do was lots of weekend tests.

Hello all! Just came back from the vet! We start lantus 1ml every 12h! Does it sound good to you?

Um a big NO :eek: Double check the amount of insulin the vet prescribed before you give any. 1 ml is a massive overdose for any new diabetic cat to start with.

Hopefully you and your vet mean 1 UNIT of insulin twice a day. It can also be written as 0.01 ml. If you're not sure how to read the markings on an insulin syringe, ask the vet or a vet tech to show you. You can also reference the syringe marking picture in this thread: https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB...info-proper-handling-drawing-fine-dosing.151/

Nothing wrong with testing and giving insulin at those times. Whatever works for your schedule :) Just be consistent with the times. A few mid cycle checks is ideal but not everyone can get those in. That's kind of what weekends are for :)

Ohh I am so so sorry for the mess! Yes 1 Unit I mean !! Thank you!! I will fix it right away!!

Phew! Understandable for a newbie to make a mistake like that:bighug: Too much diabetes stuff to wrap your head around and process. Your signature says 1 ml so you need to fix that as well.

There's a Lantus forum here with tons of info stickies that you should read through.

Thank you actually if you review my Corky's SS you will see that I do exactly the same he get AMPS at 6 and PMPS at 6, is when his BG just before dosing mis lower than 100-140 or so I get very insecure on what to do as many times that I read the PORZINC sticky guide, is like I can't think, at this low BG when I have dosed his BG has spiral down on the +6 testing, thank you for your input, I am glad you do the same as I do I check Corky every 2 hours every single day, when he's on a danger zone I test every hour until I see improvement:bighug::cat::cat:
