Normally I give insulin (1.25 units) in the morning before I leave for work and check at +4.5. Because Minky was normally running high, I didn't worry so much but still checked. About two weeks ago within a few days, three times she dropped 140 points within the first 4.5 hours which alarmed me. She was okay as the lowest reading was 104, but my concern was if I didn't catch it how low she would have gone.

I teach and this week we have state exams. I just was informed that tomorrow I will have to be at my testing site most of the day. I won't be able to come home for lunch to check her. Do I still give the 1.25 units in the morning? This stresses me to no end as it will at least 8 hours before I can check her again. Is there something else I could do? Thank you for any advice.

I cannot advice you on dosing, but I will tag several members that can advise you on Lantus, my Corky uses ProZinc, the low Bg number may differ that of Lantus, but Corky has gone as low as 65-70 Bg and that is a good number(as seen in his SS):bighug::cat::cat:

Do you leave food out for Minky while you are gone? It doesn't look like she's going low on this dose, so she should be OK with her 1.25 unit dose. But having food to snack on, whether an autofeeder or just in a dish, will help in case.

I do leave 3% wet food out. She is not always great at eating. I did intervene with medium carb food when she was 104 so she would have gone lower that day.
