Hi again!
So Cadmium was at 100 for his AMPS yesterday. I lowered his dose to try to start the tapering off process, but it went down too quickly for his nadir (vet does not want him to get below 75 as he is very newly diagnosed) so I got him to have extra food with a small amount of nutri-cal gel. It came back up, but then later spiked up. Regardless, I gave him an even lower dose. Because I wasn't able to monitor him today because of being out of the house, he didn't get his morning dose. The vet was saying that with 0.5U he could just be taken off of insulin for a couple of days, as its more dangerous to go too low than be too high, and see how he reacts to it- as long as its not in the 500-600s range. She said 200-300s would be acceptable. He is currently at 412, and will check again prior to dinner (in about two hours).

What I don't know is what should I do if it stays in the 400s, as it is in between those values?

Based on his spreadsheet I'm also not entirely sure if he's having a somogyi effect overnight, bounce, or was taken off too suddenly for his needs to be addressed. If it was just based on blood glucose numbers alone and how much his insulin dose was, I would say somewhere between 0.5 and 0.75 would be ideal- but of course thats not the only factor!

Thanks!

consulted the dosing guidelines for ProZinc, and as his numbers were going up, I have given him a reduced dose that is between 0.5 and 0.75 units. I will test his glucose values as often as I can tonight.

Can you get some more tests in during the pm cycles? He could be dropping lower at night and we would not know.
I’ll tag @Suzanne & Darcy for you as I don’t use Prozinc
Also @FrostD although I think she is away from the forum for a week or two.
I am testing as much as possible before falling asleep, and if I wake up in the middle of the night later I'll try to get some more tests! at +1 he started coming down again, now hes at 393.

If you can manage a before bed test each night that would be very helpful. If the tests in the first few hours after the preshot are lower than the preshot test that is giving you a heads up that the cycle is probably an active one. So if possible, get another test in a bit later to see how low the dose is taking Cadmium that cycle.

Yeah, good plan. His shots are at cycles of approx 10:30am/pm, and with hypersomnia it tends to catch up with me really intensely at night. Just tested him again for his +2 reading, its at 352.

That’s looking like an active cycle tonight.
Does 10.30/10.30 schedule suit you? Would you rather an earlier time schedule?

Unfortunately it's very hard for me to wake up earlier than that in any level of clarity to safely administer his meds :( Plus, hes used to getting his breakfast at that time for several years. Maybe I'll try setting an alarm for his +4 or +6 to test his glucose, at the very least for tonight? I feel better about testing his glucose while a bit groggy than I am about giving his injections, theres many ways that can get messed up! :nailbiting:

I understand. You have to pick times that work for you.
I would feed him a snack now and maybe test at +5. Is that doable for you?

You can see what I mean by it being an active cycle and the numbers giving you the heads up to test again, can’t you?
Well done getting those tests in!
Totally! And thank you for the praise, I'm really glad I was able to get those tests in.

Do you think 0.5U is an acceptable dose for him? I am able to monitor him more closely today too.
