Dosing Question for Tonight/Possible Remission?

Hi all,

I finally made my spreadsheet - I've just included January for now until I can get everything back through August posted.

Diego has been on zero or very low carb food for months now and generally while he has changes in his sugar here and there, he remains mostly steady. Was a little wonky recently, but I suspect the insulin vial needed replaced, and got it refilled. He had a brief lower period in December when I was out of town, but of course in that case, we had to elect to skip some doses versus reducing them (since no one was available overnight to test him).

On Friday (two days ago), I switched him from RadCat raw and some TikiCat, to Stella & Chewy's frozen rabbit morsels in an attempt to help his really bad diarrhea from IBD - he's lost a ton of weight. While I'm well aware of the impact a diet change can have (been through it before and home tested like crazy), if anything, I expected his BG to go up slightly on this new food, since the prior foods generally seemed to have little to no effect on his levels.

He's been low the last 48 hours, and super low today, and that was on a reduced dose of insulin (note I indicated these as 1/2 unit but really I can barely see on the syringes below the 1 unit line, so this is an eyeball guesstimate on the amount). Debating if I should shoot a super low amount tonight depending on where he's at at dose time and test him overnight, or skip it altogether? If this is a possible chance at remission, I don't want to mess it up by removing insulin completely too soon versus reducing it, but also don't want him to go hypo, and I kill it by having to use karo syrup (and just don't want to go through that in general, obviously) :)

Thoughts? ps I realize I haven't done a curve in awhile - we've been really battling constant hunger/diarrhea for the last month - focus was more on that, probiotics, etc, and less on BG and curves. Probiotics he was on were s.boulardii (yeast, so possible BG raise when I add that back in?) and Visbiome. Stopped those on Friday as well briefly with the intent to restart, just trying to "reset" him so to speak in terms of the digestive pyrotechnics.

I have a cat with IBD and she has frequent, lengthy flares with terrible diarrhea. Have you tried Slippery Elm Bark? It really works wonders for her. I mix it in her food twice a day (I started out making the syrup and adding that but she didn't like it - she doesn't mind the powder, though.) I also add extra water to her food. I alternate between the SEB and either s boulardii, or Renew Life Ultimate Flora if her diarrhea is back under control.

If he is low tonight I would just skip his dose, since it's already so low. But I always err on the side of caution.

I've been hesitant to try SEB, because he's allergic to so many things. It's on my future options list though :)

I skipped his insulin last night since he came in at 99 about 30 minutes before shot time. This morning he was back to 151 - usually at that number, I give him a full unit with no issues and the curve stays relatively flat. This morning, I gave probably less than 1/2 unit (eyeballing) to be safe. Just checked him close to +3, and he's at 100mg already. Hoping these numbers stick! I wonder if adding back in the s.boulardii would risk raising them at all and if I should wait, since it's a yeast? As of Wednesday, I won't be able to be home the entire day to test him, so I'll likely be skipping doses starting then even if he is clocking in at 150 or so.
