Dosing Help! Sugar getting very high after starting Doxycycline

Can you please look over my spreadsheet and offer any advice? Puma also has FIV late stage and started left rear leg paralysis, which vets do not feel is diabetic neuropathy because he doesnt walk on hocks. They feel it is either from spinal lymphoma or the FIV. We started doxycycline to see if it would help and we are on day 3 and it is helping his energy and seems maybe a bit more mobile, but his blood sugar is getting really high! The vet lowered his insulin last week to 1.5 units twice a day because she felt his fructosamine was too low at 254 and I was told to leave it at that dose for at least 7 days, but it is getting really high. He is drinking and peeing nonstop and has even been soiling himself which he has never done. He is on prozinc. Can someone please help me with what we are doing wrong? My vet told me to only change dose once every 7-10 days, but he jumps around so much. Can I adjust the dose as needed?

Hi! I am by no means an expert (hopefully one will chime in here). But our cat Niki has been fighting a nasty infection/wound. He has been on doxy twice and his glucose has been high both times. We also tried to increase the dose but vet said to wait and not change anything without waiting 5-7 days. Just our experience. I wish you both the best of luck.

Is the doxy liquid or pill? If it's liquid, you may need to call a pharmacist and see if the oral stuff contains sugar (most oral meds do).

The problem with giving you anything in the way of useful advice is the lack of testing. It's important to know what's going on in the middle of the cycle as well as the PM cycle. Most cats go lower at night so at least a "before bed" test is really important.

The 2.5 dose dropped him below 68 not too long ago and that's a reduction point on a pet meter so I'm not really comfortable telling you to go up even more. If he's still in the 400's at PMPS, I think it'd be fairly safe to give the 2.5 again, but please start getting some PM tests in. Without tests on the PM cycle, it's kind of like guessing what's in a puzzle picture with only a few pieces filled in on the left side.

If the doxy is liquid, check into that. How long does he have to stay on it?
