Dosing Advice

Hershey has been consistently in the 200's. Some low some high, and accordingly I adjust his dose. If he is a low 200 I give lower insulin if high I give higher. Feel like there is no consistency, and that we are stuck in a rut. I was advised in an earlier thread to feel comfortable shooting more at a lower number, I feel that I am not completely comfortable with that because I work and am now home 12 hours a day. The weekends I am around and feel better shooting higher. I do not though when I increased his dose to 1.25 he was getting lower BG's. Any dosing advice again would be appreciated. Thank you.

Judy, could you get a curve tomorrow? That would let you know how low he is going mid cycle and make it easier for you to decide about the dose. His numbers look okay - especially if he is in lower ranges mid cycle. Depending on his nadir, he might need a smudge more or a smudge less.

Remember, you adjust the dose based on the nadir, the lowest glucose post-shot, with only some consideration of the pre-shot tests when you have enough data to show how the cat responds at varying doses of ProZinc.

If getting those mid-cycle tests is tough or prevented by other obligations, maybe augment your observations with some of the Secondary Monitoring Tools in my signature link, such as amount of water drunk, urine volume, dehydration checks, appetite assessment, and behavior.

Thanks to both Sue and BJM I appreciate your helpful comments. This was not a good weekend for a nadir for Hershey, I was out both days this weekend. Will try next. He has been very interested in our new feather toy we bought, and has been eating good, in fact I never see him at the water bowl. Seems weird, compared to the days where he lived in the bath tub drinking at the tap. His other secondary monitoring has been good. He has been sleeping the same, eating the same, everything seems great, in fact he has been showing more activity. I will attempt a curve next weekend.

Sue, I was wondering if you could repost my google sheets since I think you opened for me. I upgraded to Windows 10, (big mistake lost all my pinned stuff on my start menu), and now his sheets are gone, and I dont' think they are under my email. Let me know. Thanks!

I'll look to see if they are still n my computer. Since you couldn't get any nadirs this weekend, how about getting before bed numbers this week (after the pm shot) and even setting the alarm some night and try for a +5-7 hour test. (If you are anywhere near my age, you are up around then anyway)
