Wondering what to do? If I do the 8 hours and split the dose how will that work at lowering #'s?
What do you do when the numbers are high and the insulin appears to not be lasting the 12 hours?
Do you think he would be better off on Levimar? LOL
I know the last time I talked about switching insulin's we got into the blues and greens.
I would really like your recommendation.
Do any other cats look like this as far as the insulin not lasting the 12 hours?
Does he need a higher dose?

The trouble is that you want a definite rise by 8 hours. And he was close, but still dropping. Cats that do well on 8 hour dosing should clearly have cycles that end at or before +8 and then rise.

You could try it. So you take your dose (4 units) and divide by 3. So about 1.2 every 8 hours. You need to test around +7, then at +8 and be sure he is going up. If he is, you give insulin.

We have had people who do TID, but it is time consuming and a little scary, as you are often testing and have to be watching his levels.

His numbers aren't awful - yellows at midcycle. You could go up to 4.25 before trying anything else.

Honestly, it might be easier to change insulin and see how he does. I'd suggest Levmir as he is at higher doses.

I'll try the 4.25 and see how if we get better cycles. If not Ill switch to Levmir.
