Hi
@Suzanne & Darcy if you have a chance over the next few days I'd appreciate some advice.
Bub was ill this week for a few days, throwing up/off food. I did have to feed a lowish medium carb treat food to get him to eat, I did a one off half shot, after feeding and delaying 2 1/2 hours, on the pm day he was worst as he just wasn't eating well. As expected he then went high.
Yesterday he was much improved, ate breakfast with a few treats as encouragement and throughout the day returned to his normal self. Saw our first green! By pm shot he was lower than normal but eating well and higher than nadir, his normal pattern seems to be to increase more when his preshots a bit lower so thought I was safe to shoot. I did slightly reduce from 8.75 to 8U - I think this was a bit gung-ho.
He dropped from+1 so think his his am shot still affecting him? I know he didn't drop into anywhere near unsafe numbers but I think he would have if I hadn't kept feeding him. I'm also completely not used to these numbers so it's scary! He probably ate double what he normally does and foods that are higher carb than his normal- still all under 10%.
Anyway I'm shattered he's now bouncing today (first time I've been happy to see a bounce- managed a quick nap). I only shot 7U this am(reduced from 8.75 yesterday am). When this bounce clears what do you think I should be dosing?
I think I triggered the illness by giving him fish oil. Probably again a bit gung-ho with the starting dose should have eased in more. I'm not sure if it was pancreatitis (from the fat) or just a stomach upset.
Fish oil is meant to reduce insulin resistance which is why I was trying it so these better numbers could be from that. He's also been on cabergoline for nearly a month now so we could be seeing improvement from that. It did look like I was getting closer to a good dose before this so maybe it's just that. Or an after affect from being ill? I just don't know.
I should mention Bub absolutely loved last night! Lots of tasty food every HR and a million testing treats. He thinks life should always be like that
