Dose?

Hi,

I've updated Yoshi's spreadsheet. I'm still getting in the hang of testing him in the morning before work, but I plan to do a curve this weekend. My vet said that she didn't want to up his dose, because he hit near 200 at times, but wants me to do a curve (which I will).

I just tested him and he's at 210. Is it wise to give the full 2u?

So a midcycle number would be 6 hours from now? At 2am? :/

Is it bad that he's not dropping more preshot? I thought 200s were kinda goodish?

And can anyone briefly explain the mid cycle test? What is it supposed to show? And how do curves help determine dose? I know you're looking for the lowest point but what does that even mean?

Still learning...

I use the mid cycle tests for smoky to determine how low he drops from his current dose of insulin. The curve is done to allow you to see how the insulin is affecting his blood sugar over the course of a cycle. The dose I give smoky is determined by a combination of the pre shot numbers and his nadir, lowest point.
I'm not that good at explaining things so hope this helps.

That's when I get one in. Ideally, I would like to get in a +5 or +6 as that is usually Smokys nadir but I work full time. I try to get in extra tests when I have days off work.

For Prozinc, the nadir is *usually* between +5 and +7. Lisa summed it up very nicely :). Doses are changed based on the entire curve, not just the Preshot tests. Do you have a M-F job? I'll wait to continue :p

I do. I'm a pretty busy lady. I have down periods but this definitely isn't one.
