There is plenty of info regarding holding a dose and holding an increased dose.
Can someone tell me how long I should be holding the reduced dose?
ie: Cat earns first reduction, on that reduction dose 48 hours later, cat "earns" another reduction.
Can reductions be made that quickly without consequences?
I realize this: "Alternatively, at each newly reduced dose... try to make sure kitty maintains numbers in the normal range for seven days before reducing the dose further."
I understand ideally, that changes should be made slowly by "shaving" the dose. However, does anyone have experience with making quick reductions?
Some background:
The reason we have not adjusted or reduced her dose is because she has been on and off pred throughout the last month due to a severe allergy. The pred spikes her BG and makes it unpredictable (the pred is why she is here in the first place, unfortunately). Until she is completely weaned from the pred and on her new medication we could not predict what her normal is/will be.
Because her pred is now only once/twice a week, we are getting a better picture as to what her true "normal" is and now I am safe to start making reductions as necessary.
