My cat is coming off a hypo event due to a veterinary error. Instead of 0.5 units she was given 5 units. This was over the course of a few days. We're moving on to recovering.
She dropped from 237 to 235 over the last 3 hours and I was going to use this as her PMPS.
My concern: she hasn't eaten since her 'sugar fix' when she was really low (40-57 range) around 5:00 am. She had a little bit of wet pate and vomited. I don't want to give her insulin on no food, given the rough night she's had.
Any suggestions? Do I let it go until tomorrow, even though I suspect she'll be in the 300's with an empty depot?
Any help is appreciated. I'm nervous again .....

What a scary incident!

Has Malika ever tested positive for ketones? A half dose might be OK if you think she might eat later.
Positive for ketones when first diagnosed in January. A comprehensive test is on my list of things to do.
I might go for a half unit minus one drop to be safe .... UGH!

You can get urine ketone test strips at any human pharmacy. It's good to do periodic ketone tests, especially if there were some in the past. If you had seen recent ketones, I would be more inclined to shoot some insulin. Can you monitor her tonight? You could even go 0.25 units if you wanted to get something in her. Cats with recent hypo can be sensitive to insulin. If you shoot at all, make sure you can stay up if needed.

I gave her 0.25U at 10:00 and then slept for 12 hours. Crazy!! She was at 191 this morning at 10:00am so I have her another 0.25 and will be awake to monitor. :coffee: The best news was she ate! That has been a challenge. Thanks for the help!
