So yesterday Doogle dropped down to 48 at +4.75. We gave him a shot yesterday morning with a PS of 175. I was reclutant but we have shot below 200 before. I figured he would go up some but I guess I was wrong. Anyway, fed him at +2 and he ate fine. Then when he started to drop more I gave him a little bit more food (about a teaspoonful). He continued to drop, so I gave him some honey, didnt work. Dropped some more and gave more honey....still dropping. He wouldnt eat at all so I syringe fed him some HC when he hit 48. He went up finally but didnt want to eat or do much at all. He started throwing up about 30 minutes after syringe feeding. He was drinking water like he did when he was DX. But threw that up also. Anytime he got sick it was white foam. Tried some Pepcid and he threw that up also. We didnt give him a shot till late that night when he got up HI (1u). I syringe fed him a little to make sure he had food on him, threw some of that up also later. All he wanted to do was sleep. So took him to the vet today and he was given an anti nausea shot. He isnt dehydrated at least. So brought him home and he was wanting to eat. So I fed him a tiny bit and he ate it fine and kept it down. Then he went to sleep for a bit. About 8 hours later he ate a little bit of baby food and we gave him a shot of 1u. He still isnt wanting to eat but he is drinking ok. He is going to the bathroom some and no diarrhea at least like last time (he was sick for a week in the end of May). I dont know what caused this. Could it have been to much honey or to many carbs? He didnt get into anything at all (he was isolated to my room all day and night). If I ask the vet for some anti nausea medicine how do I give it to him if he wont eat? I hate seeing him sick like this. I dont know what is causing this. I asked about pancreatitis and he was tested in May and his levels were elevated but nothing to alarm pancreatitis. I dont know what to do anymore.

Hi Donna - can't really offer too much advice, but that happened to Bob a month or so ago. He went really low early in the day and I gave him syrup and a few high carb treats several times. He was on dry food then. ANyway, starting at about 5 or 6 in the evening, he threw up a few times, didn't want to eat, lethargic etc. I let it go until the am and then he was fine. I guess its possible it was to much carbs and honey -that's what I think happened to Bob. Maybe give it a little while longer (as long he's not vomiting and diarrhea) and see what happens. Hopefully, he will bounce back. I know when I get an upset stomach it takes a while to recover - just the thought of food makes me nauseated.

Good luck!

What do you mean by "his levels were elevated but nothing to alarm pancreatitis"?

Why don't you start giving pepcid before his shot and meal? Give it 30min before shot time so it has time to settle the stomach. You will see vomiting if you give too much food out of the ordinary and also karo, that's expected.
As for medicine, ask for cerenia maybe, and just pill him like you would with pepcid.
What did the vet say about the vomiting and what were you told to do?

Does he usually go off his feed when he goes low and bounces high?

I'm sending feel better vines to Doogle. He can't go too long without eating, so if this continues, I would take him back to the vet.

Hey, Donna!

The Spec or Snap fPLI tests for pancreatitis are very accurate IF your timing is right. If you're getting the tests run at the outset or tail end of a pancreatitis attack, you may get a false negative result. Sometimes, you just need to go by symptoms. Also, cat's can get a stomach virus.

Were you feeding Doogle anything different? If there's a food allergy involved, some cats do throw up their food if they are allergic. Beef and fish are common allergies for cats.

As for giving Doogle anti-nausea meds, if he can't keep anything down, the vet can give him a shot. I don't know if the vet would be willing to give you the injectible form of either ondansatron or Cerenia (or a prescription since both are available on-line). Given that both of these drugs are for nausea and vomiting, they have to be in an injectible (as well as pill) form if persistent vomiting is an issue.

FWIW, Gabby went through a bout of GI stuff a while ago. It usually started with limited vomiting and was then followed by diarrhea. I'd get things under control with Pepsid, metronidiazole (Flagyl), and FortiFlora and then take her off the meds. The process started all over again several weeks later. My vet did all kinds of tests and nothing came up positive. We finally kept her on the metronidazole for a month and everything has been fine since.

Well Doogle doesnt have any other signs of pancreatitis excpet for the vomiting, nausea, not eating and lethargic. I think I may just be overreacting (reading on the internet can do that...LOL). Food has not changed in a year. Doogle is usually REALLY hungry when he goes low ( quite the opposite of most). I am more convinced it may have been to many carbs at once. I may have panicked after the sickness in May. Spoke with the vet this morning and he said he would give us something if we want but I am going to try the pepcid again (that is what we did last time after he had been to the vet twice for fluids). The vet did give him a shot yesterday about 12 hours ago. He did say it would make him sleepy and just not wanting to do anything. I am going to boil up some chicken and see if he will eat that a little. Right now he is just sleeping on the rug in my room, which is now a fortress with no access to the others. Poor new kitten doesnt know what is going on. She wants in the room with him to play and I cant do that. The pancreatitis test he had was sent out to Auburn University labs and came back with results (I dont even know if our vet has the Snap test). He is a bit of an older vet and very very small so i dont know if he keep those on hand. Auburn is only a couple of hours away so he can get better results faster (Auburn is one of the best vet schools in the country). I guess I just need it to be patient and let it run its course.
