Doing a curve with Lantus

Hi,
I am new to home testing. I was reading up and noticed it says there is no peak time with Lantus, so I am wondering when/how often I should test. My cat is only on 1 unit twice a day. He seems great on this low dose but it's so low that it seems like if I found the right food, I may be able to get him OTJ. I'd like to experiment with different foods and do the testing. Thanks in advance for your help.

Lantus typically peaks in the middle of the cycle. The following is an example of a typical curve:

+0 - PreShot number.
+1 - Usually higher than PreShot number because of the last shot wearing off. May see a food spike in this number.
+2 - Often similar to the PreShot number.
+3 - Lower than the PreShot number, onset has started.
+4 - Lower.
+5 - Lower.
+6 - Nadir/Peak (the lowest number of cycle).
+7 - Surf (hang around the nadir number).
+8 - Slight rise.
+9 - Slight rise.
+10 - Rising.
+11 - Rising (may dip around +10 or +11).
+12 - PreShot number.

However, once tightly regulated, there is a characteristic "flat" curve. In other words, the range in numbers will be much smaller. If you look at the spreadsheets of some of the kitties here who are in the middle of OTJ trials, you will see there is a wmall badnwidth in their numbers as they get closer and closer to going OTJ.
