With Jester (and the other furkids) getting used to my work schedule and adjusting his insulin based upon what's been happening daily, without being able to do mid-cycles, I thought a curve might be warranted.
I've been adjusting the AM dosage since, at first, Jester wasn't eating very much in the morning - generally not much more than half a can of food while his original dosage was 2U.
The new AM dosage was 1U, but his evening BG (usually at +11) hitting blue numbers, while still giving him 2U at night.
Since making that change, his PM numbers have been getting higher. Additionally, I stopped trying to get him to eat low-carb foods (he resists them and so far no "flavor enhancer" has made a difference) and he's been eating more in the mornings - today he about finished off a full can of Friskies shreds (carbs are about 14).
Yesterday I started eyeballing 1.25U.
I know the standard is 3 cycles before a curve. Technically since he gets one amount in the morning and another in the evening, it seems like three cycles would be more like three days.
Does that sound reasonable? If so, Sunday would be his curve day.
However, in order to get the full "effect," so to speak, I would need to not feed Jester throughout the day until the time I normally would feed him during the week. Otherwise, I won't get a true accounting of what goes on in his body.
Thoughts?
