Doing a curve on Scout today

Hello all,

I'm staying home today so I figured it's a good time to do a BG curve. Should I test every hour or is every 2 hours sufficient? Scout's being pretty good about the testing so I was going to try for every hour unless there's no added benefit. Any other advice (restrict food, keep track of when she eats, etc?)

PS for those of you following Scout's progress, to sum she's missed 4 doses due to low PS in the 6 days since I stopped dry food but unfortunately her BG is on the rise again. I'm trying to see how long the PZI really lasts and where the nadir is on 1 U so I can test and dose more effectively in the future.

Thanks :)

Looking good, Lori. :-D I love the notes you add to your spreadsheet, too!

When Mr. P (pancreas) sputters in and out, it makes our dance just that much more eventful and interesting.

Glad to see you've dropped back the dose. :-D

This is certainly getting to be an interesting dance! But I'm so glad to see her numbers going down from time to time on their own. I am definitely backing off, just trying to keep her out of the purples until I figure out what's going on. Glad you're enjoying the notes, Teresa... I try to remember that how she's feeling and eating is just as important as how much insulin I'm giving her. I nearly cried when I saw her playing with her mouse toy for the first time in MONTHS. It made me realize how long she's probably been feeling cruddy.

I decided to test every hour as long as she'll let me then back off when she starts getting annoyed... but so far so good. I count my blessings every day, and the fact that Scout is such a calm patient kitty is definitely one of them.

A friend of mine is having his house fumigated so I'll have his cats for a couple days starting this evening. One of them is Scout's age and they've been bffs since they were kittens. Usually when they are together, at some point I catch Scout holding her boyfriend down and licking his face. It is super cute! This pic was taken when they were still kittens:

So anyway I'm sure there will be hijinks and food stealing and hissy fits as 4 cats try to settle in for a few days, should be interesting. :)

That is adorable!

Being aware of how they are feeling, and not being aware before, still rocks my boat. I picked up Poopy earlier and my first thought was, "What did you do, lay in the water bowl?" he was so damp. Then it dawned on me, he's been grooming himself! I hadn't noticed the decrease, but I sure have been noticing the increase! :-D

So her curve showed that 1 U brought her from 317 to a nadir around 95 at +7, but no bounce! I know Mr. P must be involved given the wonkiness the past few days so I'm planning to back off her dose to 0.5 units when her PS is over 200, nothing otherwise. With two strange cats in the house, she may not have food available at all times, so I don't want to risk a hypo. Its going to be an interesting couple of days even without diabetes thrown into the mix :)

Any advice on dosage and/or keeping the non diabetic cats from scarfing up all the wet food is appreciated :)
